New Member new owner of this 240Z RHD UK

Another one from Bristol, well Bristol originally but living in Gloucester now. Dropped a couple of bits of for Val last Saturday. Nice to meet up with a fellow Z owner! I’ve been looking around for bodyshops as well just for prepping and spraying. I think I’m going to go with a place out towards Torquay call Eccentric Paintworks. I’m hoping to have my car on the road by June so will also be up for Castle Coombe if complete on time!

Thanks for the delivery mate.

Would love to see that. Where and when did you get that? Never seen it around.

I only got it recently, it has only been around the block since I picked it up. Needs a bit of tlc before I take it far. Your more than welcome to see it anytime.

Don't think I have ever seen a G-Nose either. Perhaps we could meet up soon seeing as you are just down the road from me. My car is actually stored in Mangotsfield - the only place I could find a secure lock-up. PM me to let me know when convenient.

Anymore space? I’m also looking for storage.

When’s everyone free?

Hey guys i’m Not very mechanically or electrically minded but i’ve got a bit of s dilemma. I need to get my chassis rail replaced and my engine needs to come out. If I was to take my engine and gearbox out would you guys be able to help? I don’t have the tools to do it yet ie. Engine hoist and engine stand etc so if anyone can lend a hand or help I would be great appreciated.

Reason I’m having to do it myself is because the guy at the body shop is by himself and doesn’t want to do it and will get other people in to help him if he has to do it at his. The cost to do this was over a grand to take the engine out and to put it back in. I honestly can not afford as the other work required will also be putting me back another few thousands.

Any local help would be much appreciated.

Hi have one but it's at friends, I could help but depends when as off on holiday for 5 weeks soon.

I can lend a hand advice-wise but I have a dodgy shoulder at the moment which is waiting for an op so I won't be able to do much in the way of lifting etc. I could make the tea!!!EXTRA:D I borrowed an engine stand off Huw who is based in Whitchurch and a member of this club. Perhaps if you PM him nicely he may let you borrow it for a bit. I rented an engine hoist from a tool hire place in Yate for the day which was about £30. They delivered and picked it up which was useful.

WRT storage, you would have to ring up & ask. It's managed by www.lockupgarages.co.uk. They have sites all over Bristol/UK.

I have all the gear but up in Cumbria, would be only too happy to help if you weren't so far away. Have you considered how you'll move the car to and from the bodyshop once you've removed the engine, do you or the bodyshop have access to a winched trailer?

Hi Val
If you can wait until the second weekend in Feb,I can
Come and remove the engine, have a hoist and tools.

Would you have somewhere to store the engine?

Steve

I’m in no rush steve. Store it at my home garage I guess. Want to work and clean the engine up.

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Do I need an engine stand?

I’ll pm him closer to the time when I know what’s happening :)

Good to know a rough price on cost of hiring out the hoist. Got he contact of the company in Yate?

Thanks for the advise.

No i haven’t thought that far ahead yet. Don’t have a trailer or anything. But will probably just get it towed to and from the body shop.

I want to work on the bay a lot and clean up the wires etc. once it’s back from the body shop. Any idea what it costs to wire tuck and clean up the bay, remove and smooth out the unnesscary scrap that’s in there? Also all the small components to make it look fresh? :)

Depends on what you’re going to do to the engine, whilst out of the car.

It’s going to take two/three hours to remove the engine.I could bring my recovery truck and deliver to the body shop/welders,when removed. Would also be useful if others were there to help.

Have you had anyone who really knows about Z’s look at the welding required? ie Geoff.

I have some parts to bring to Bristol, Would be good to see Mike, and if you’re not far from Geoff I could nip round and see him.

Neil I'd give a bit of thought and planning to what your wanting to achieve. I think you mentioned the engine needs to come out because the chassis leg needs replaced (as opposed to weld repaired) this being the case then the new chassis leg will then need primered and painted as will the attached inner wing where the chassis leg has been welded on, so your now into painting at least one inner wing, which as you've got the bulk of the engine/gearbox out it now makes sense to repaint the whole engine bay. You've already mentioned you also wish to clean out the engine bay and refresh it's contents, notice how these things tend to grow... I guess my question is could you not repair the existing chassis leg until time and budget permits you to do the full job that you would prefer to do?
