my 74 260z project

well ... im 15 and i recently purchased a 74 260z as a project car. she needs alot of minor repairs (new rubbers for bumpers, dash cracks, faulty electrical, needs some rust holes filled in, new suspension, the fuel pump leaks, carb tuning, ... ect) it sat in a field for about 5 years and the worst got to it.

but the car runs well. ive already ripped out the majority of the interior to begin the cleanup job, changed oil and oil filter, my new mechanical fuel pump is coming in a few days, and i plan to do some prep work for paint very soon.

im having alot of trouble locating parts for this car in the US so i joined to try my luck on the other side of the ocean. if u guys can point me in the right direction for parts id be very happy.

this is going to be kind of my project journal with pictures as the process comes along. i didnt take any pictures the day i got it or the 1st day i started work.

yea ive heard of them and checked out their catalog but they dont seem to have what im looking for. i need all the little stuff like turn signals, full replacement bumpers, the wheel well rivet on lip kit..... ect

but i went out this morning really early and got the majority of my electrical working. took out the center console and the center divider and cleaned all of it out, sealed all the cracks, greased all the moving parts, and re spliced some wires. but the tachometer and clock do not seem to be working =/. the day is only half over and i have alot left i want to do.

Try MJP Autos, he's based in the UK but he sources a lot of parts from the US.

He's a trader on this forum.

thanks i found the front turn signal =))))

but i have a question about the front bumper.... if you bought an after-market body kit can you show me where you purchased it and what it looks like. I removed my front bumper to prep the car for paint and i am thinking about getting rid of the stock bumper.

or if u restored your bumpers can u tell me where u got the rubber bushings? mine just crumble to pieces in my fingertips.

DAY 4 ( i think)

ok so most recent updates
-replaced mechanical fuel pump
-resprayed the grill black
-mag polished the front bumper (looks great)
-mag polished carb covers and cleaned carb filters
-replaced rear fuel filter
-bled brake lines
-removed all side trim, hood vents, and Z logos
-removed smog pump (dont need it)
-and i started sanding the body today.

i would put up pictures but my camera is messed up
=/

Hi
Have a look at my for sale ad 260z 2+2 breaking, you'll see the MSA style front spoiler, that in my opinion sets the motor off a treat, just needed a bit of grill behind it but couldn't get a standard one in time.
Best of luck and with the parts available over the pond that shouldn't be a problem:bow:

I'd have thought that these guys would be useful to know about if you're in California:

Also probably worth posting for help on www.classiczcars.com ... or one of the other US based forums (as no doubt there'll be secondhand stuff out there)

To be honest I'd have thought the economics of importing UK->USA would be prohibitive ...:D

What colour are you thinking of going for when it comes to paint? Are you gonna keep it retro with the metallic blue or maybe go for a more modern look with a two-tone? Keep us updated on your progress though because it seems like the car is in pretty good condition to start with compared to some of the rust buckets we get over here!

newest pictures august 10th 2008

my hood sanded down w/ out vents
i resprayed my grill black
