Chilling, sad and well worth posting. It hits a very raw nerve as I am a parent like many of us here.

I know I sound big headed but I always watch the road ahead as I've gone past the "looking at tottie state"

maybe with the tottie factor.

but think we'd all suffer with whiplash if big sam wizzed past us on M62!! :D

seriously though. it's so easy to forget how vunerable and fragile we all are.

even more so in thirty or so year old lumps that we drive around in.

where the crumple zone includes everything inside the car. :(

Too true rahail240. Just the point I intended to make. We all know the pedigree of Z metal and it wasn't good when new. Next year these cars will enter their 40th year. Most survive because they have been patched up in various forms either well or not so well and patch on patch. Just don't forget as you hurtle along in your pride and joy.

After 20+ yrears as a traffic cop I've seen far worse than that video, held hands with the dying and shared a fag with them and then had to go and tell the relatives.

The car is only as good as its driver and sometimes only as good as the other idiot on the road. Don't let it happen to you.

The above is one of the main reasons I got rid of my Pulsar, At the end of the day even with all the upgrades it was never meant to handle over 500 bhp , At one point I got to a 174 mph on the GPS  and that was it for me just the thought of having an accident at those kind of speeds was quite scary so it had to go, I like to think of myself a a pretty good driver having driven 160 ton mobile cranes and Class 1 trucks all my working life, But it only needs a blow out or a deer to run across the road and you're done for :(.

By the way I don't condone those sort of speeds and it was a one off late at night, I never speed in built up area's having 4 kids myself, I also don't speed with passengers in the car, Last year I was driving past the School and their was two young lads on push bikes riding on the road ahead of me, I was only doing 20mph which was lucky because one of them just crossed the road with out warning, I missed him by less than an inch with a full blown emergency stop .

I also had quite a nasty crash about 4 years ago avoiding a stag standing in the middle of the road, I wasn't speeding in fact I was doing 10 mph under the speed limit due to it being a bit cold and slippy, I came around a corner only to see this great big f*cking thing standing in my lane, I thought I'd just cut the corner no problem at all, But the back end went and off I went into the tree's at 50mph :(, My last thought was this is going to hurt lol, After coming to a stop and nearly cutting the car in half , And all the air bags going off I actually came out of it with out a scratch :D:cool:.

My point is that you just don't know whats around the next corner and with the best will in the world accidents do happen, So speeding in built up area's and in unsuitable weather is defo a no no, Which should at least give us a fighting chance of coming to a stop safely if anything does happen.

a small point to bear in mind re the above is that a deer is not classed as an 'animal' under the RoadTraffic Act. (I think this is because they all belong to the crown [unless farmed] and you can't take the crown to court). Anyway, if you bump into one it will certainly bugger your car (and your NCB) and the deer as well. If you are mates with the local butcher get it to his place asap. The skin is worth a few bob and there's a years supply of meat if it's a big bugger. If you have the courage it's a diy job but well worth it. And as it's not an 'animal' you don't need to tell the cops! (You'll just need to get a new car)

love the random stuff you can learn on this forum.

The guy who painted my car ran over a deer last week and he chucked it it in the boot lol, Straight down the local butcher for a cash bonus. Good job he can do the repairs on his car himself though as he's of still been on a loser.

I couldn't get into work this morning as they closed the M6 - two lorries collided at around 0540 this morning and 6 cars then crashed into the mayhem. The motorway was still closed in both directions earlier this afternoon.

I think one of the lorries hit or went through the central reservation! The stuff on that video is really not that far fetched in comparison.:leaving:

I love my Z because of the old school sports car formula of a big 6 with twin SU's (nothing beats that hungry slurping!) but I try to only let rip when the roads are dry and there's nobody around, good visibility, etc. I know its no excuse but then what would be the point of owning such a purposeful machine?

It frightens me when I see people ripping around at speed in urban areas - my local paper had a story in it today about a bloke who was nicked for the nineteenth time about driving without a license, during a ban, no ins, etc; the Police spotted him and he sped off crashing after a high speed chase. He was pissed as a newt in a pint of vodka!

i know. four young un's died yesterday after crashing stolen impreza into chip shop only a few miles from me.

i think it's hard to get through the devastation of it all too joy riders/reckless drivers. until it's too late.

it's similar to disasters which occur overseas. we don't 'really' feel it unless it's
on our doorstep.

Our roads have just become too busy, tha's what track days are for but for a lot of young people they just thrash it around and don't see the harm in it. I thnik your perception of the world changes alot, when you have kids and become a parent.
When I was younger I used to drive quick everywhere but now, if I see a child walking along the road side with there parent, I think what if the just run out how would I feel.
Kind of slows you down. Younger people/ drivers don't think in the same way well not all of them anyway just my opinion.

second that one !

There are simply too many distractions now for drivers and the cars are too forgiving, giving drivers a perceived sensation of control and safety.

Didn't see too many1.3 L Marinas thrashing up the by-pass..........

who is the music from on the 'soundtrack' ?

When I do the school run sometimes in the morning with the missus the amount of cars that mount the pavement to get around the parked traffic makes me wince every time. People don't think very much any more. Most are wrapped up in getting to their destination and have absolutely no idea that the rest of the world is trying to do it's thing as well.

Also if you hit a deer and kill it you are not allowed by law to take it yourself (for consumption or gain) but the next car is, so it's always worth hanging out in a waggon train because venison is bloody gorgeous.

Thankyou sir !

My sisters' boss hunts and got a wild boar. She's bringing a huge haunch of it back for Christmas Eve dinner and has to have a certificate from the gendarmerie in case she's stopped whilst on the road with said meat in the car !

Venison's great too (nice bit a biche) - we had a hunk of that last Christmas but I had kangarou for lunch yesterday - YUMMEE !

alot of those scenes are from tv ads here in northern ireland.

not sure where the music is from tho

these ads certainly slowed me down, it only takes a moments lack of concentration.........
