Like a Scimitar . . . NOT!

Well I had my 260Z parked up on a car park the other day, and some bloke wandered across to admire it. All was going well until he said "So what is it? A Reliant Scimitar?".

Now I've been asked by people is it a Maserati, or an Aston Martin before now . . . but a Scimitar???

They might have had the 3.0 Capri engine in them, but they were bloody ugly.

How could he mistake my beautiful machine for one of those? They look nothing like each other - see photos!

Had exactly the same very recently, although being a 260z 2+2 some here may think the chap was justified.

I had similar sort of thing yesterday, pulled in at one of the remaining petrol stations in Cumbria that still had fuel and some bloke in a knackered old Clio says, and I quote

"I used to run round in one of them, what is it a Scirroco?"

I just smiled and said yeah 1974 model....:D

but your pic is a Scimitar GTE, not a Scimitar which is a much prettier car

Agreed.

I have often thought that one of these could make a very simple and cheap car to run in my old age (petrol prices excluded). It will not depreciate, not rust, has a separate chassis and a simple Ford engine. Plus Road Tax Free

As long as you are prepared to drive around in something that ugly. It looks like something that started out as one thing and ended up another - or two different cars joined in the middle. The only thing Reliant could have done to it to make it any worse is put three wheels on it . . .

my mate had a reliant robin once.we painted it pink and rolled it in salfords sometime in the early 90s:driving:

Reliant Robin Banger Racing is where it's at! When we moved up to Yorkshire we missed visiting Wimbledon for the banger cars, so found some racing at Sheffield, one of the events was Reliant Robin banger racing, which I have to say was just epically funny! lol
