LHD 240s on eBay

The white one was previously for sale at £12,750 and didn't move. But I can see that it does now have an MOT meaning the electric work for the rear lights has been completed. But it still needs a respray (paint not good), all new rubbers and some wing mirrors which are missing

.....and a lot more than one can't see....there always is !

The white one does seam a little high but have you checked out the price of good 240's in the US lately? I've not seen this car but the paintwork is generally poor on most California cars. We expect this as you don't want to see fresh paint. You are buying these cars for their lack of rust and that's the appeal of them. You expect to replace all the rubbers, and freshen the suspension, fit a dash cap and maybe get it painted when you get round to it. Your buying a car that's never been messed with and has its original floors, chassis rails, arches and lower doors. Its very hard to find a non cali car that still has all these original parts and if you do then its very expensive. Most UK car had replacement rear arches in their first 10 years of life. I'm not against restored cars and there's a lot of really good restorations going on but there's something special about a car that has all its factory sheet metal. This is the desirability of a rust free original dry state car and why I can see their values continuing to rise. Especially as they are getting hard to find and desirable in the US too.

Many a true word.....even if ol' Cyclops doesn't agree 'cos they're LHD....:p

Good ones are getting a little thin on the ground and this is what's now available. Should be able to buy it and get it over here for around £8000. Anyone interested?
Didn't sell surprise, surprise.' Tis a bit naughty saying the above, in fact I saw a similar comment on the forum 4 or 5 years ago. The 'importing from the states' cat is well and truly out the bag (as you've proved yourself),it's easy and there are tons of 'rust free cars' at 'bargain' prices. However judging by the slow sales on ebay UK I'm not sure there is a market in the UK for all the imports. If it's a supply and demand situation it might even result in prices falling.

Just because it's on ebay uk doesn't mean that it is destined for the UK market.

Apologies, I've edited my post correctly now (well apart from the 'in') . Why would anyone on mainland Europe import a US import from the UK, would they not be as well importing from source, the US. Tax or import regulations?

A car is easier to register first in the UK and then sell on as a European registered vehicule.

Some have imported directly, others via the Dutch importers.

All roads lead to a Z in the garage at home.;)

Pete - I don't consider it a bit naughty. It's my opinion from what I've been looking at for sale.

If you get a change, I wouldn't mind a few links to the tons of rust free bargains you mention. PM would be great.

Probably something like:

Car $10,000 / £6,500
Transport to port $500 / £300
Shipping on boat $2,000 / £1,300
Import duty and tax £2,400

For a total of around £10,400?

Then there's also paying for the effort of dealing with the above unless you do it yourself.

Think duty and and VAT would be around £1000, so £9000. As for the effort, I found it quite exciting and entertaining, sending large sums of money to god knows who, tracking ships online to see where the car is,wondering if you're going to end up with a knackered basket case or the car of your dreams, learning about the import process, dealing with the DVLA (contrary to most I found them very helpful) all good fun and pretty straightforward really.

Yes, I noticed that as well. I'm not sure if there is a selling 'season' in the US. If you're looking to import a car though you'd probably be looking over a period of weeks or months. You've pretty much shown yourself that there are plenty of cars available, you've bought 5 or so recently and they all look pretty good, unless you've bought the last five decent ones in the US. (And I'm only going by ebay. I know there are are other sources, and actually going out to California would surely reveal a whole load of other options.)
Someone recently asked me, jokingly I think, if mine was the last one left in the world!
