Link not working!! surely not gone already? or are you just teasing me Pete?

May be a bit too much money for the UK buyers. IMO under 10k is the right price to sell. Over that and they don't sell that easy. Also most people want a pretty looking car even if they are going to strip the shell and repaint it.

I brought the orange car home today, ready for MOT on Monday, and gave it a clear. What a cracking looking car. It will become my daily driver for a while but with what I ended up paying, all in, its wont sell for under 10k so I'll just enjoy it.

If you bring in cars to sell then there has to be enough profit in it or its not worth the risk and hassle. Buying a car for $11.5k to sell is not going to be easy, even cutting the profit right down.

I think I'll carry on as I have been and just buy cars I like and don't mind keeping. Then if no one buys any I've not lost anything and get to keep driving great cars.

I found it quite exciting and entertaining, sending large sums of money to god knows who, tracking ships online to see where the car is,wondering if you're going to end up with a knackered basket case or the car of your dreams, learning about the import process, dealing with the DVLA (contrary to most I found them very helpful) all good fun and pretty straightforward really.

Wierd idea of 'fun' - you must have a very boring day-job.:D

You buy one of you buy four in a container - the stress muliplies....and if you're intending selling them it's greater.

And fun climaxes when tax man knocks on the door looking for his share!:D

Like I said, over ehre, one can sell on several cars a year before being viewed as a trader and even then it's up to 'them' to prove it - in France one is still presumed innocent !

We are VAT registered in both businesses as it just make sense financially for us. When we had the computer shop we had no choice as the turnover was always over £250,000. High turnover for not a lot of profit.

Pete - That's the sort of car and prices I've been seeing. Would like to see underneath though as your still taking a chance if you don't. Looks good but clearly needs painting as all the top surfaces look flat but then don't they all. Maybe you could get it for $10 but once you add all the other costs I cant see it selling for much % profit and you need to make a reasonable % to cover your risks. You must also remember, as has already been the case, HMRC can still pursue you in the years to come for the full non historic duty if they consider you previously should have paid the full duty. The most famous case being the one with JD Classics over the cars they had imported from the US. They took them to court for nearly £300,000 in underpaid duty. I remember how far they can go back but I think its 5 years.

Again I'm not disagreeing with anything you've said. Yep, you would need underbody pics to give a better idea of the condition.I was looking from a personal import point of view rather than a resale. But to go back to the original point where I commented on your post of the sad 'Zap',I'll be honest and there was nothing wrong about what you posted I just got the feeling it was a bit of 'dealer' patter 'buy one quick, or this is all you'll be left with'.
In a previous life I wanted a Japanese 300zx import, I did a bit of internet searching and had a rough idea how to do it, went to a dealer who had an imported Supra for sale, asked him how to go about 'nah mate, you can't do it, need to be registered ...blah ..blah ..blah'. Done it myself.
Anyway, on holiday all next week, planning a road trip in the Datty and it's decided to run a rough, hey, ho.

This car bucks the trend of recent low prices for lhd cars on Ebay especially with reference to JohnyMDs 260 Auto a couple of weeks ago.

I beg to differ.
1) the advert was potentially misleading...look at at seller updates updates the bottom where he is reminding buyers that it's LHD. So could some of the bids have been placed under the impression that it's RHD?
2) engine and drivetrain are modified - probably running over 200bhp and modified retro's are attractive to a certain clientele. I suspect buyers buyers adding a few extra grand for these goodies?

Nice car, shame about the steering position.
