Le Mans Classic 2010

Ha, ha - nice try Mr Dave but bollocks - I'm not convinced !:p

You had a great Z and it went not because you lost your job I remember......then you had this one with a great engine which you then changed (and more mechanics besides I hope) and undertook bodywork changes.

The problem is that you have too much money and that alongside the other cherub, you spend it on complicated engine configurations all in order to blast up 400metres and win some "empty old cup"

Q.E.D you need more work to pay for the cars - stop spending and start driving.:)

Oh, and a special message for my airbox king - get on and finish that red one to make room for the next project and so as I can sell it !

Stop faffing around in your garages and get out and enjoy your Zs on the road and failing that ('cos UK roads are chocka and crap anyway), come over here in them which is what this thread is about.............

A cup that will never ever feel the cynical grip of Franglaise fingers I hasten to add:rofl: because

A. It requires skill
B. It requires a quick car

And yes Sean, Pete is working me hard, in fact I am looking for the nearest functioning workhouse in order to take a break.

Oh well, one day I might get my stroker built.:(

Why do you want a stroker when you're already doing 4.6 to 60 mph ? I'm only doing 5.8 on a damp 'C' road on my second attempt and also one day hope to have a quick car like yours 'cos corners bore me, they drive me round the bend.

I thought it also needed a lighter car (how much does yours weigh with a full tank ?) and a launch control system and lots and lots of practice. Of course mine being a road car (which was proved when I beat a lightened dedicated 2.8 track-car down the main straight two weekends ago), one has to compromise weight loss against having shiny bumpers, a picnic in the spare wheel well and CD packs and my hifi, amp and speaker system and two pairs of seatbelts........

I could lighten it but it's easier to wrangle my Franglaise doigts around a glass of something red !

So, you coming in a Golf next year or one of those reliable old Zs ?

Stop trying to wind Steve up Sean, I'm sure the chap is pissed off enough as it is!
His car is a competition car and your car is a fast road car. What's more I can tell you it goes round corners very well too - you'd have a job keeping up.

Thanks Rob I appreciate the kind comments, especially coming from such a competant driver:bow: I did have a significant setback a couple of weeks ago after melting a piston during testing, a result of poor fuel (ironically I was going out to test a new detonation/knock sensor) a little bad luck at a local petrol station which was under refurbishment and had swapped pumps around created a situation whereby I accidentally used 95 octane which resulted in a small amount of detonation which subsequently destroyed number 3 and 4 pistons in very short order (but I was running 12:1 compression so no suprise there)

Yes the car is more of a competition/development car and the way I look at it is, if it breaks, it wasnt good enough in the first place.
I truly believe the car already had 12 second potential after its recent rebuild as it was performing superbly and felt the quickest and strongest it had ever been producing more power and torque than ever before.,
I am quiet relaxed though, it has encouraged me to go to the next stage of development with the engine which should be "interesting" to say the least, I already had the steel crank and race pistons, now thanks to a friend in Stroud I have the Carillo rods, I just need to finish a head off  and get the block bored.

Hopefully if all goes well we should be back out and playing in August

Rob, if your doing any track days around that time your feedback on it would be greatly appreciated as the latest developments should have a significant smile factor:driving:

I'm sorry Rob and very sorry to you too Mr Kiddell - I thought that I was replying in kind :

A cup that will never ever feel the cynical grip of Franglaise fingers I hasten to add:rofl: because

A. It requires skill
B. It requires a quick car

And that Mr Kiddell had implied that I don't have the skill nor a fast car and now that I'm not a competent driver.

I had no idea that Mr Kiddell was testing the 'new' bioethanol fuel E85 with a twist of lemon and just a splash of bees' pee - that is engineering at the cutting edge of automotive ingenuity and to be commended. Anyway, sorry - I didn't know that you'd paid for 98 and got diddled with 95.........what a world we live in - a bit more compression and you could use diesel like the winning Le Mans cars !

Since Mr Kiddell and I have never had the opportunity of going out on the track together (when we were at Castle Coombe, his car was up on jacks), I'm still waiting to exchange cars and give each other some banter and useful feedback.
My 'problem' here is that unlike Mr Kiddells' car which he states
if it breaks, it wasnt good enough in the first place
, my car hasn't broken down in three years of hard use although I will add that it'll be going back to Daddy this Autumn to have the head off, a check over and probably a 'tune-up' and maybe rolling road session as she's running slightly rich.

Interesting point that it's now apparently accepted that Mr Kiddells' car is a competition car and NOT a fast road car (like mine) - I've tucked that gem of confirmed info away for future exploitation.

Going back to the thread, I very much hope that all this years' testing will result in an indecently quick competition car that we might see at Le Mans Classic next year - who else has the courage like Dale to trust their old steed ?

Me too - I'm still so disappointed not to have seen you here last weekend - and no substitue for ccs mate so get that stroker stroking and stroke over here next summer if we don't all head up to Clog-land (hope it don't clash.......).

But now yours' is officially classed as a competition car I can relax.

Well just to try and get this thread back on track  . Me and my Brother are very much interested in attending next year so any details would be much appreciated. Yes I hope to be in my Z and my brother .... well who knows?

Mike B

hopeing to be there,,,, driving. will let yoou know closer to the time in what

Right then chaps :

I'm on it and want to know who's coming and doing what and staying where ?

Camping with 'the group' ?

Track passes for the Friday evening (to be confirmed) and Saturday morning or either.

Just the stand 'cos you're boring, staying elsewhere and afraid of being raped by the Z camping gang ?

An email (with your full name, postal address and contact tel number) stating what you want and a Paypal transfer of €100 net of charges to seanz@wanadoo.fr

Be serious because once I have your money, I'll book the tickets and to refund you, I'll have to try and sell the tickets on.

This is not an event to leave it 'til the last minute AND if you want track passes, I MUST know ASAP !!!

Up to you guys and gals now. I'm hoping to have cars from at least the UK, France, Holland and Belgium.

Event is over the 9th, 10th and 11th of July - why not stay longer beforehand or after and make a real break of it ?

Sean quick reply - I will be there with Lee and maybe David. Not sure what I will be travelling in, may have to take it in turns on the roof (aka blow-up doll)!

Sean,

Could you spell it out a bit more in plainer english. Is that 100 euro, hmm dont have a euro sign that I can find, per person?

Plus I take it the track pass is for a spin round the trace?

Mike

Rob - you need a second Z - speak to Hugh Meyers.....!

Mike,

€100 (euros) per order (not per person).

Track 'sessions' are normally 2 - 2 1/2 laps of the full circuit either the Friday evening (which was cancelled last time) or Saturday morning.

You can do both days but not more than one session per Friday evening or Saturday morning. The track sessions last time were €110 (euros) per car !

Take a look at mine or Robs' video (s) to see what it was like :D !

looks like I have a ride in either a Austin 3000 or TR4 depending which one my mate is racing. So I will see you there.

I'll let you know in which camping we're staying and we can swap mobile phone numbers - that way you can come down and eat/drink with us Friday night ?

Remember to tell me which car and colour so I know to whom to wave whilst passing.

Latest news - no track sessions on Friday evening - qualifying of each plateau of cars racing instead !
