The MN47 and N47 versions tend to get a reasonable amount of attention on the US forums because they were plentiful there, courtesy of the Maximas and 280Zs (once the N42 heads were replaced by the N47s on US L28s for emissions reasons). Undoubtedly the Maxima version has a degree of appeal from a performance perspective due to the closed design, but it’s potential is always going to be hampered by the inability to do any flow work on the exhaust side due to the liners. And ripping them out is generally viewed as a non-starter. Those of us outside the US didn’t have to deal with the emissions compromised designs, and thus have more N42s and P90s to work with.
A more interesting one to grab if you find one IMO is the L24e version of the E88. That has closed chambers and square exhaust ports with no liners. Put some L28 seats in and port accordingly and job jobbed for a sporty head.
Im also a fan of the idea of going wild on the L20 head, the E30. 39cc closed chambers as standard, just with little ports and seats. So, lots of material to hog out and bigger seats needed, but nothing much needed on the chambers. I have two in the parts pile to play with...
