Juke gearbox fault

Just as well I have been using a Nissan main dealer to service the Juke since I bought it a couple of years ago

Coming back from Cornwall started to hear a very slight noise when slowing down and after a service where the garage could not hear the noise I thought I was hearing took it back to them two weeks later as the noise was slightly louder
It was then found to be the beginning of the gearbox playing up and after they contacted Nissan reporting this nissan agreed to supply a new Transaxle Assembly free of charge as a goodwill gesture as the Juke had always been serviced at a Main Dealer

From what I have heard about the number of these boxes failing recently it makes me wonder if there is a fault on there automatic boxes as mine had only done 27000 miles and was only 5 years old and Nissan is aware of it

Although I had to pay for the labour of having it fitted not sure of what route I would have taken if I had to pay for a new box myself

That's quite shocking Steve, I know so many people who have had to pay for failings in manufacture that show themselves after a few years.

Sometimes 'old bangers' are a far better bet financially.

I can understand Main Dealer's favouring their customer's but surely you or 'Joe Bloggs Motors' would do nothing to affect this failure.

Why isn't the labour shown separately if you had to pay it?

Also there are a lot of Jukes out there living on borrowed time them?

If you can prove something has a design flaw (a 'latent' or 'inherent' defect) then the manufacturer must pay all costs to replace or fix it. The problem is proving such a thing - maybe if you can find on the internet high numbers of identical failings or, even better, the root cause of the problem that proves a latent defect then you'd have grounds to take legal action.

btw. have you checked your manual and warranty documents? A quick google suggests the Juke has a 5 year / 60k mile warranty.

[EDIT] Also, as Rob says, the invoice is a bit odd in that it doesn't show labour costs separately. Maybe it's worth getting in touch with Nissan to see if this replacement was carried out as part of your car's drivetrain warranty, if it was then I would have expected Nissan to cover all costs. If this is the case then it isn't entirely impossible the garage has charged you for work that they've already been paid for by Nissan.

Hi Steve check out Honest John web site common fault put me off buying one for my wife that's the problem now with Nissan using so many Renault bits such a shame

Interesting thread. Ive just emailed my part manager friend to clarify this. I do however suspect like Morgan19630 that its probably a Renault box and not a Nissan item
