Dearest all,
This email is to remind you all of the biggest Japanese Car event this year
in the UK. www.rotorstock.com - the 'www.mazdarotaryclub.com Japanese
Streetfigher Showdown' taking place on Monday 31st May 2004, at Shakespeare
County Raceway.
The fastest 32 Japanese cars in Britain are going head to head for the
first time ever, and there WILL only be ONE WINNER!!
Come and see the very best cars the Japanese Car Community can offer, and
for the first time not just see them looking good but performing as well.
A massive show combined with a Run-What-Ya-Brung event plus full-on quarter
mile competition with the UK's most powerful Japanese Sports Cars.
Mazda is also planning to launch a new sports model based on the MX-5 at
the show - and there will be cash prizes and lots of trophies on offer for
the best cars.
(The following is extracted from 'Japanese Performance Magazine', Issue 40
May 2004, page 12).
If you've never seen a 10 second quarter mile by a 1,000 bhp Skyline GT-R
don't miss this event. You may have seen how the top players compare at
drag events before, but this is the first time that the UK's top Japanese
Sports cars have had the chance to shoot it out on a properly prepared
surface and against the clock.
Hosted by the www.mazdarotaryclub.com in conjunction with
www.shakespearecountyraceway.com, the event is open to all makes of
Japanese performance car. For those who want the opportunity to get in some
quarter mile practice before the main event, the strip is also open on Sat
29th & Sun 30th May for the Nitrous Modified Show and RWYB. The main event
for Jap-only cars is Rotorstock, on the Bank Holiday Monday. In the morning
and until 3pm, anyone can give it their best on the dragstrip, but from 3pm
the Japanese Streetfighter Showdown begins. Here, the fastest runners of
the morning and previous day have the chance to battle it out against the
invited star cars and their drivers.
The "Star Car" entrants invited by MRC for the Japanese Streetfighter
Showdown make a truly impressive list. It includes the awesome Nissan
Skylines of Rocket Ronnie (Abbey Motorsport prepared), Gary Passingham
(GT-Art), Ron & Darren Kiddell (RK Racing), plus other hot contenders
including Simon Norris' amazing 10 sec. Evo VII, Adrian Smith's Fensport
Corolla and ultra quick Supras of Dee Ireland (CRD) and Leon Green (JPS
Motorsport). Expect to see some very special lightweight RX-7's there too -
with 500 + bhp. Some of the most powerful Scoobies will be attending too.
Abbey Motorsport's Mark Gillingham is also hoping to have completed his
beast of a Skyline which is expected to have 1,300 bhp on tap.
This really is a meeting for all with an interest in Japanese cars be it
Show or Go, and even if you think '' well my cars not fast'' you could
still win the best reaction time at the lights!!
There are 50 or so Trophies and also prize money on offer at RotorStock for
not only the track action but also the Show side.
Entry to the event costs £18 (£15 in advance) plus a further £15 for
unlimited runs on the drag strip for the Sunday and Monday.
On the Monday 31st all Mazda owners will only pay £14 on the gate!!
This promises to be the greatest event for Japanese cars this year and is
to be supported and sponsored by Japanese Performance, so expect to see a
feature on the event in July's edition.
There is also a Video being made that will go on worldwide sale.
mazdarotaryclub.com will all be there for the Sunday when qualifying gets
underway, but RotorStock itself is on the Monday when the venue becomes
Japanese only.
More details on the RotorStock website: www.rotorstock.com or for ticket
inquiries, phone 01803-554308.
We look forward to seeing you ALL there, for this unmissable exciting FIRST
of it's kind meeting!

anybody fancy it??

Would be interesting, but I'd have to take the bike (French car) and it's about 1.5hours of motorway for me which is really dull and crap on the bike, plus I'm full up during May at the moment.

Looks like it could turn out to be a good event though, even if your the only Z you have to go to fly the flag for us, I'm sure the 6 pot can show the wankey engine a thing or two :D

I'll look out for you then if the weather is fine and I can plan a more scentic route, get some photos of your car infront of these Mazdas for the gallery to show we're not scared :D

I'll view the results with interest - running a ten second quarter and going head to head in a drag race are two very different things. Some of the "ten second" runs I've seen have about two seconds of driver preparation and reaction time involved which means they will get beaten by a twelve second car whose driver is on the ball and doesn't have to double check everything before he makes a pass..................

Tony , as soon as I get this bloody turbo swapped for one that is actually working properly then I will take you on Mate.
Best reaction time I had first time out was 0.69 seconds I think.
Not too bad for an old git Eh???

It only takes me 0.53 seconds Pete, to realise I haven't got my glasses on, how's about that than guys and gals ?

It takes me 0.03 seconds, but since I don't have a Z it takes me about 3 minutes to run the 1/4 mile.

On a Z Club Santa Pod day years ago (picture Z Club mag Autumn 1991, page 10), Ken Chelton (now of ZXS) and I did a bracket race demo - my 280ZX Ratz against his stock 280ZX 2 seater. He dialled in at 17.2 seconds, I dialled in at 9.1 seconds - this gave him virtually an 8 second head start. Ken was at half track before I got the green! He took the win by a car's length due to my late light as I went past his 80mph terminal at 150 mph!

Those were the days when members used to go to the meetings the Club organised.........

This is the sort of racing you need Tony!

THAT'S EFFING AWESOME!

Well impressed, I'm gonna do something like that, just give me about 5 years!

This is what the Z Club needs.

BTW there is a show (Weston wheels) near me, 12000 spaces are allocated for club space apparently. It'd be a cheap show and it's mainly modified cars, it's in August, maybe it's worth a look? I would help set up and stuff but I don't have the time to organise it. Anyone interested?

Steve - thanks for being bothered to scan and display that!
Aaah, memories...........................................

Best reaction time I had first time out was 0.69 seconds I think

I've just noticed that the Pod tickets now quote reaction time as "+.XXX", i.e. the .4 second delay between ambers to green is taken out of the equation, leaving your true reaction time after the green is lit, so I'm afraid .69 is equivalent to the old version of 1.09.................sorry. Now +.000 would be perfect whereas previously .400 would have been quoted as perfect on a Pro Tree!
On the old system, .69 would have been quivalent to a +.29 reaction (still too slow to be a consistent race winner, but typical of road cars which take a while to wind up the transmission).

(this'll wind him up)

So, Mike, even with a thousand horsepower edge you still couldn't thrash him?

(Hmmm.. yup.. I can hear teeth gnashing)

Once I've got my sooper dooper clutch sorted I'll most definitely have a go!

Mr F I already added on the 0.4 to my time to get the .69 so dont add to the agony by adding it again!!!
I will try harder this coming Sunday, and maybe beat all the camper vans this time!!!
On a more positive note, I hear on the grape vine that another newbie is venturing out in his 240Z this time, after coming for a look see earlier this month.
Maybe not quite like old times yet but perhaps a few more might be tempted to give up visiting the garden centre on a Sunday and bring their car to Santa Pod

I think I'll stick this article up for download in PDF format if no one minds (Mr.F?). Maybe it'll attrack some petrol heads into joining the club.
