import duty

I've had some bits sent from MSA which was good as they gave an discount over list prices:thumbs:

This time I was waiting for the dreaded letter saying that i've got to go and pay duty etc, however it didn't arrive just the bits. Now obviously I'm very pleased about this I just can't work out why I didn't have to pay. The box clearly stated the value, I've had to pay it on some other bits before, so how the hell do they decide if you're going to have to pay the highway men or not?

You will probably get the bill through the post in a week to 2 weeks time, I;ve had this happen before so don't celebebrate too soon.

As far as i'm aware they never bill after, in fact i'm 100% sure as they can't then prove what is in the parcel or that its been received by the intended person.

Its strange that it is a lottery though, pretty pleased this one slipped through:D

If I was ever charged previously (and most times I wasn't), I had to pay the delevery driver on the door step, or at the collection office. However recently I recieved a letter through the post saying I had to pay the fee on line, this I did and my parcel was delivered from the couriers depot 2 days later.
Don't know if this is how all imports are now going to be charged.....

Its all a bit of a lottery. Some you pay, some you dont.
Hope I don't have to pay the for the delivery I got from America last week. That would be very nice, fingers crossed I don't get anything throught the post.

Its a few years ago now but I'm pretty sure I got the billing through the post.

If anyone wants a quote on bringing in goods from anywhere in the world then let me know. I own an international courier and shipping company and get massivley discounted rates from all the major carriers which I would be happy to pass on to club members. To give you an example I have just imported a set of four Rota RB R's from the USA at a cost for shipping of £65. This was an express service and they arrived two days later.

That sound very cheap. I'll definitly need to get in touch when I order my brake setup from USA. :thumbs:

Just tried to place a large order with MSA and they wont allow me to arrange my own shipping. Looks like I wont be able to offer a service from them...

That's because they charge you say $140 and it only cost them $60.

So true Sean. He did assure me however that they make no money from shipping....

His explanation was that they had stopped allowing this due to them receiving charges after the goods had been shippied. This is absolute tosh as I explained that all the collections, paper work and shipping notes would be booked on my accounts and he could verify this with the shipping agent. He refused to budge.

I will try and speak to someone in authority and see if I can get a different outcome. Let me know if you need anything shipped from anywhere other than MSA.

True it's rubbish as I've had stuff sent over via a shipper from just down the raod at nearly half-price.
