Fuel Gauge ?

Think I need a new fuel/amp gauge and this is why.
Fuel gauge stopped working
It was checked by a garage and they said its the gauge as they had checked the sender and that was OK.
I have looked into how to test the gauge and grounding the yellow wire should produce a full gauge reading?
I did this and although the gauge raised slightly to say 1/4 tank it then just dropped back to zero.
Now the car is a 240z but the dash I have been told is a 260z dash, This is due to the fact that the small gauges can be removed without removing the whole dash and that instead of reading Volts/Fuel it reads Amps/Fuel.

Can anyone pass on any further insight to this problem, is there something I am missing as wiring is not my strong point?

These gauges seem to be very hard come by also so does anyone know if they can be repaired?

Any help appreciated.

Don't think your gauges are correct, I have a 260z dash and it has a voltmeter and fuel guage, you may have an american spec dash or a normal 240z dash.

You could be right it seems that a lot of the American forum's talk about the 240z with a amp/fuel gauge. Anyway to update I took the gauge itself apart and cleaned the tiny points within, a bit of a clean generally and it is back working and all back together. It just shows you what a little fiddling can do. Not saying it will last for ever but it has cleared up what the problem is.

Well done, very satisfying I would imagine.

Well done fixing it. I did the same with the clock in mine, not sure how long that will last.

If you get stuck I have a spare 240z fuel gauge in great condition.

Hi Everyone,Just read these comments on the fuel gauge etc,I am having a problem with my temperature and oil gauge, after some months of working on and off they have packed up altogether now on my 260Z.2+2 so I will attempt to get it out and repair it.Thanks for the tips. regards.anthon51.

After 40 years ticking away my clock has stopped working. I want to take it out and have a fiddle but how do you remove it ('72 240Z)

I've removed mine by taking out the glove box liner, then reaching behind the clock to remove the 2 screws/bolts/nuts, sorry can't remember which, that hold the clock in place, also don't forget to remove the bulb and wire. simple but you need small hands. (disconect battery first!)

It is worth remembering that the centre clocks are fiddly to get out and you need to be patient. If something is blocking you getting it out easy don't force it as these bits around are mainly plastic and once broken hard to replace. I took out the centre heater vents and radio section but I should have taken out more maybe the clove box liner is a good idea. Someone had already broken a couple of plastic bits which I repaired before refitting simply because I doubt there are many spares around...
Nice to have it all back together again just needs a good clean and it will be going to Tatton tomorrow
