After a few months of ownership i've finally got a some pics uploaded of my little 280 project.

The car hasn't missed a beat as my daily drive and everyone i know loves it  (here was me thinking it's an acquired taste).

I've straightened out the back bumper as it was bent in about 2 inches on the driverside. I had to cut the bumper up, hammer it straight then reweld it :smash:

The huge hole under the fuel cap has been patched up, the rear valance and front splitter have also been welded up and i'm in the process of going over all the little rust bubbles to sort the bodywork ready for some fresh paint.

Still undecided on colour though. Any suggestions?? :)

Colour ? Yeah, red very nice !

Is it me or does it look so much better than the rest of the garage ?

Hi,
Looking good!...I'm sure I went to have a look at your car when it was for sale a few years ago....I remember the 'ego' reg plate!
I would keep the car red as you then don't have to worry about the engine bay etc, being a different colour?!

Yes, I agree with the sentiments here, stick with Red although I would co-ordinate the bumpers. By the way is that a Jensen Interceptor in the pics?

Looks like it's going to be staying red then :D

And yeah, that's an Interceptor III, all 7.2L of V8 goodness. Not mine unfortunately, it belongs to a customer. It's been laid up for quite a while and it's owner asked us to get it on the road again for him. We got it in with the carb all over the place and it used 20 quid of fuel without leaving the garage

Cool garage you're working at. Not bad to be working on Porsche's, Interceptors and Datsuns!

And red looks the business.

...So, do you reckon you'll keep the car red..? Seems like a pretty popular choice here. Nice s1 Elise too (with the ill fitting toupé). My mate had a Jensen too and used to use a tenner to get from Lowestoft to Yarmouth every day. 60s Chrysler engines... For when an oilfield in your back yard needs emptying!

I would like one of the Cropredy Brige Garage Jensen Interceptor S models with the 6.0Litre engine from a Corvette under the bonnet and independent rear suspension!

Love the zx in red :)

That garage in Cropredy would be a cool place to work too, I've been past that place a few times as it's quite local, LS1 or LS2 Jensen would be sweet:devil:

Well, the new tyres have now been ordered, it's time for suspension/bushing.

So, a few questions for you more knowledgable folks :)

Where's the best place to get some decent uprated dampers?

MJP custom springs look like they'd fit the bill so no probs there.

Are the energy bush kits worth getting (tried them on several S13 and they seemed ok). Any alternatives?

What about steering column bush?? Worth poly bushing? The steering feels a little remote at present.

Sorry for all the questions, no point in me messing around testing parts that you guys have already tried out ;)

cheers,
Marty

That made me chuckle - I remember my Dad having an old 1950s Bentley that was being kept in his lock up (as a restoration project) by someone, they only used to pull it in and out every now and then to get through with the forklift, and were constantly having to feed it another can of fuel....

Fitting MJP uprated and lowered springs WILL transform your ZX without doubt. It is the most cost effective mod you can do to it.
Poly bush everything that moves too. As the 280Zx even when new was a boulevard cruiser rather than a sports car, so anything to tighten it up will be of huge benefit. Column bush and rack bushes too.
New shocks will just add to the package as your existing ones will be "tired"
KYB gas shocks are a good mid priced option. IMO there is no dneed to go to the expense of Tockicko Illuminas
If you want to keep your budget modest then I have a pair of rear Monroe Gas matic shocks which are "as new" that you could have for very little money. There is probably an advert for them in the classifieds.;)
