Engine bay pix !

What a shame that so many are destoying motoring history. While some may be reversed, some are gone forever. Before you get on your high horse and tell me its your carand you will do what you like, I have heard it all before and still have the same opinion. Go buy a Skyline!!!!!

After reading this and had the chance yesterday to polish my rims in Grolls's garage the engine sure don't look all nice and shiney like the photo managed to get a lot of the black shite from the polishing of the wheels all over his nice shiny new engine and made it look more suitable for you
Sorry I didn't have a chance to take a photo as Grolls dropped in dueing work and throw me out of the garage

But maybe he will take a photo of the engine as it is now after my visit and its state now will surely meet with your approval as it now looks more bog standard

I take it that his car looks like this then? i know what I would rather own!

Is there something under that thing at the front that dont seem to open after
Mr F told Ken Chelton at ZXS to tackweld it closed to stop me poking my honker in there and asking idiotic questions like what does that big lump of metal do and whats the purpose of them big black things that seem like big elastic bands that go over them round things:eek:

Well, other than "It's my car and I will do what I like to it!" :p :p

I didn't realize the purists were still around here. Or did I miss sarcasm or something?

Merry Christmas!

Paparaska that looks fantastic, clean crisp and very functional

Go buy a Skyline!!!!!
why? a 240Z and a skyline are chalk and cheese no matter what you do to either, both are designed and built for very differant motoring usages.

Nice to see you Pete ! Your site was the original kick up the arse to make me want a V8 240Z. :D

Hello Pete !
I beginning to wonder if there were any other Yanks on board here ?? Your engine looks great too !
Never mind the Purist's remarks......the Uncreative types are ALWAYS mumbling stock is great !What they mean is "stock is all they can achieve" lol.:p
I'm GLAD we don't ALL have the same Ideals about our Z's..........thats one of the best things about building these cars.......they are a blank canvas for us to show our creativity and enjoy. Our car,our money, our time !

"Purists"?
Still around where?..........

I don't understand this 'purist' thing. Can somebody define just how the word 'purist' is being used here in relation to levels of modification of Nissan's Z-series sports cars?

And what does "Uncreative types" mean precisely? *sigh*

From my personal point of view, I hate seeing all this finger-pointing from both sides of the imaginary fence. Both sides look stupid when this goes on. If either side is saying the other is 'wrong' - then that makes them wrong for saying such a thing.

And this thread isn't even on the 'HybridZ' section of the Forum...............

Come on, this 'purist' VS 'Hybrid' thing is ridiculous. It sometimes seems to me that the one needs to feed off the other. Take one away and you are left with nothing.

As old-car enthusiasts in the 21st Century, what we ALL need to be is PRAGMATIC. Surely that way we can all help eachother and co-exist for the common good? :(

I'm off to uncork another bottle.......

No offense meant, my friends.................

I guess really "pragmatic" or "practical" as it is , will define ones motivation for building these cars as we do at will. The S30 chasis has always been a great platform for exercising its growth potential.
I'm quite fine about the individual who chooses to do a "bone stock " restore........I just get tired of hearing an earful from them about how I've raped the Z or destroyed it in some way when I simply did all I could to make the car safer, technically advanced, faster, more comfortable, etc, etc.
I mean........I certainly don't walk up to a stock restored Z and scoff, I just don't find myself interested at all in something done a thousand times over.Thats all.
Thats not to say I still don't appreciate their EFFORTS for completeing it......I just don't want or need to hear their closed minded opinion about something they choose NOT to grasp or share in opinion .
Its obvious that the Hybrid Z's over here stateside ( Turbo S30's, V-8s,V-12's,BMW,Chevy, Ford etc.) are much more common perhaps than overseas since the subject is still very much discussed. A Hybrid Z is so common now that there is at least 1 in every 10 restored Z's being driven. In fact, of the local 200 Z's in my neck of the woods .....theie is over 2/3'rds of them sporting swaps or power adders while the remaining are stock in design.
As stated earlier......if stock pleases someone GREAT ! Please don't approach a HYBRID Z'er about how this sets us apart because we already know.:D
I've done a concourse level set of Z's.........and couldn't keep from yawning .
When I started doing Hybrids......I thought I'd been given a shot of Adreniline and started life anew !
.................Rant over.....the bottle of brew you mentioned is sounding quite good !;)
Godd bless you all !.........Vinny:)

I'm starting to waver off the v8 idea, an RB26 looks so right and has the right soul for a conversion.

Sure ,thats been done several times actually...even in the 510.
I know a guy named Greg Dupree who put a Z32 TT with nitros into his light blue 280 and was running 9 sec. 1/4 miles.
Speaking of the RB 26DETT......thats what I'm in the middle of currently in one of my 70'Z's along with the AWD drivetrain. Its becomming more involved each day.The Atessa system is tricky.
..........Vinny

VintageZ:

I have looked into the AWD and Altezza system a little. I think the concensus was you'd basically have to swap floor pans to get it to work because of all the G sensors and such?? Also everything would have to be shortened to fit the Liner running gear on to the Z.

I'd really like to do that as well lol, good luck with that project!

AH yes..........the Atessa animal

Yes....it IS a royal pain in the arse for sure ! lol. The G-sensor is a center cabin design as is VERY sensitive to positioning in order to read correctly. I may never get it dialed in,but I'll stay after it.
The S30 chasis I am using is heavily modified as well. It has been cut down the middle lengthwise and then widened by 10" as well as the chasiss lengthened abit .
Its a full tube chasis car but will retain the S30 shell and cosmetic trimmings. I'll be utilizing all race glass so the added widths are not a huge concern.
To me.....this is where the Z should have morphed into to keep the legacy going .
The 350-Z is a marvelous machine........I just don't feel its carried anything over....IMHO.But to each his own, right ?;)
I'm building this car to satisfy all of my fabricating desires before I'm too old to get my bones to move.I want it to place a big ,wide smile on my face when asked......and a great shot of adrenaline for the efforts !
We'll see how I do this Spring with moving along.
Cheers..........Vinny :p

Very well said, brother. I never throw stones at what someone else does to their Z.

It just pi$$es me off to hear how I shouldn't do something to mine.

THAT's what a purist is, BTW, someone who passes judgement on what is "acceptable" to do, and what is not. And that is what I was addressing.
