Electric Fan Thermostat

I'm going to be fitting an electric fan to my 260Z but I'm still not decided on which thermostat to use.

I like the look of the Kenlowe adjustable one where the probe just insets into the radiator matrix but I'm wondering how well this works given that its picking the temp up from the fins rather than the water directly.

Does anyone have any experience with these.

Do they work or should I just go with one that fits into the radiator hose?

Fit a pull fan if you've removed the mechanical one with a thermostat fitted within the top hose.
Fit a push one if keeping the std fan - put it to one side to allow the future fitting of an oil cooler is wished.

I had my probe in the top hose

Think the radiator one is really only for folks who don't want to do that.

used the radiator core fitting type to the 240 that did New York to Alaska, no problems whatsoever and no chance of leakage from hose fitting

Always good to get feedback from someone who's got experience of the fitment or component.

So there you are, both work - take your pick.

Sean, I'll be loosing the standard fan, I'd like to use a pusher because it looks nicer in the bay but I'll definitly go for a puller just for performance.

I can see how a hose fitted sensor would work better, anyone got any reccommendations?

Amocrace - I guess if you use a thermometer you can set the level that fan comes on at to be correct with the water even if the sensor reads lower than the water does. It certainly an easy solution and would avoid any leaks.

In my perso view, a pushed doesn't look better, just fussy in front ! And as you say, efficency takes over from looks anyway.

Can't remember the make and car isn't here to check - sorry.

Tatty but obligatory under certain conditions and (imho) to be avoided if possible - beauty/efficiency......with tatse and aforethought we can have both.;)

Hi Ian
I've only ever had a small pusher on the race car with a manual switch(Not ideal for road use).
I only used it in traffic on the drive to and from the track. Once moving I just didn't need anything else. However I do have a 4 core rad.

I have the Kenlow set up on my Z32 and it works perfect. I was a little worried about pressing the thermostat into the rad fins but 10K miles so far and no probelms.

I didn't know this, is there a place for it or would it mean tapping a whole?

No tapping required. You can buy ally tubes with the thermostat switch built in (likes of Demon Tweeks) and just cut your return radiator hose and put in line. Quite a lot less obtrusive than going into the top hose, in my opinion, and the wires are lower down for connecting into the fan. The OEM parts are NLA and follow the same design, I have tried sourcing! Does that answer that?

Hi all

I've fitted 2 pull electric fans and I have also bought a revotek fan controller. But where is the best place to fit it.? Top or bottom rad pipe?

Leo

Mine is at the lower hose; i prefer

In fact, it really depend on the temp range of your thermostat

Upper hose is of course hotter

I have also a shunt through a switch in the cabin for safety and for specific use cases
