Door windows in icy conditions

Just a thought - with the glass glass lowering and raising a small amount when opening and closing the doors is this a problem with the 350Z?

I went out to defrost my 350Z this morning. Before I attempted to open the doors I made sure the window/rubber seal was ice-free.

I'm always careful not to operate wipers/window/roof before they have thawed, but I'm sure a few owners may forget.

I had the same problem with my day to day car at the moment an escort cabriolet, took a fair amount of force to get the doors open and i had to ease the window away from the rubber first to get it open in the end

Not heard of any issues Rob. One thing that does come up which is similar, there is a little rubber nipple that let the system know when the door is closes. This activates the drop mechanism. In this cold stuff it doesnt always reset and needs a little love. Its at the back of the door.

I always try and clear the ice off the bottom of the window before I get in. That said, it has to be very bad before it's a problem.

I have opened the door once when the window didn't drop and it wasn't very nice but didn't cause any damage. I did make sure, however, that the window was lowered before I shut the door.

Don't forget the a-pillar (which also goes up and over the door) is made of plastic and has some 'give'

Ok, so I did clear the ice first but....... the window didn't drop. so before shutting the door I tried to lover the window only to discover that it no longer works from the door switch. This prompted me to try and drop the passenger window but had the same result. Now I thought fuse or relay as its both (all) windows but I have not been able to find a fault. Any ideas what to try next other than go to the dealer?
Cheers

Bob, perhaps there is something in the Owners Handbook about re-calibrating the windows. That's where I would start, did you say you checked the fuse?

It may need the battery disconnecting to reset it. Don't know really but be careful you could end up with a big bill.

You need to take the door cards off to recalibrate the windows (there is a small switch on the motor). This only effects where the window starts and stops though.

If you are getting no movement at all then I suggest there is a problem elsewhere such as with the fuse.

One more thing, I've heard that the regulators can sometimes become lose on the motor. However, for both of them to go at the same time...

Thanks for the tips, I think I have covered all the obvious things - checked fuse's, relays etc. From the Nissan service manual it seems the windows are controlled via the BCM (Body Control Module) so points to a fault with this little black box (sits under the fuse box in the footwell).
Im getting no movement from them via the door switches or from the door lock, not to mention the lack of 15mm drop when the doors are opened.
Seems like I will have to swallow my pride and visit a main dealer and whet ever they feel like charging me to fix it.
