Shouldn't some Japanese collector be jumping at it...RHD and all that...?

Got to be keenly priced despite the shipping compared to JDM prices ?

Many of their home market cars had better spec so I cant see the attraction for a Japanese collector really?

As for the other regions who drive RHD, it's probably still relatively expensive despite the £ being hammered.

I hope it stays in UK and new owner returns it into a historic rally car:thumbs:

I believed the Euro (UK included for those Boris fans) export version to be well-laden - a lot of the JDMs had lower spec including smaller engines.

Great news Darren! I guessed it wouldn't stay unsold for long. Keep me updated with what you do Mustang-wise in the future if you get time.

Cheers

Ditto Mr 14”

It looked great and if I was in the market searching for a RHD car I would have jumped at this.

Glad the forum has proven useful.

It appears to be a fairly original uk car that's had a beating (off-road rallied) and neglected for many years. By today's standard the asking price was about right. It will take quite a lot of work and money to get it 'nice'.

I'm not criticising just stating the situation and if I had space I would have gone and had a look.

It is thought to be the Esso Uniflo-sponsored championship in 1973.

I wonder if it did the Dukeries Rally of '73, if so I may have seen it?

Having seen the car in the metal, I would not say it's "had a beating" in the sense that some might imagine. I've seen far worse on cars that have been nowhere near a rally stage, and my verdict was that the main structure of the car is sound, it's not 'bent', it's not rusty in many of the places that UK cars often were and that it would not take too much to make it very acceptable. Being off the road for so long has probably saved it.

I researched the rally history of the car and relayed it to Darren (the b/w photo of the car on a rally event was supplied by me) and my impression was that its rally career was brief. I don't think it took part in a full championship of events and the owner very likely took it on a few local events which included - at least - a round of the '73 Uniflo championship.

Ok you've seen it, all I've seen is the pictures (including the tank dent). However having done a few 'stage' rallies I know that cars will suffer more abuse and underbody impacts in a day than most cars will ever get in their lifetime. From my memory very few Datsun Zs were rallied in the early 70s and most of those that were, were owned and driven by people who had deep pockets and wanted to have fun in something other than a Ford or mini. The ones I saw apart from the serious teams like 'Old Woking' and the 'Works ' were fairly standard like this car.

It's a shame that rally and race cars these days are so highly modified that they cost a fortune.

If it's just fun you want and not to be on the podium, historic rallying need not be expensive to prepare. It's the participation that costs (travel, accomodation, entry fees, insurance, date-homologated equipment...the 'recent' change to thicker bars for roll-cages caught some people out, left with equipment unsellable !).

Isn't the issue that most events now require an HTP and compliance with Appendix K? Events like Tour Auto have always been "exclusive" but from what I am learning about the likes of the Rally Costa Brava, they also require this and hence the prep and parts cost a lot more than need be.
