About Nismo, after a long chat with the "Duke of Moucron" sir Mirroux, Nismo Japan still have a "little" batch of parts, and are usually prone to encourage old Dat to race, they give him a BIG support with their ex WORK 240Z.
Fred,
What kind of support ( "BIG"? ) is Mirroux getting, and what "ex WORK 240Z" are you talking about? Je ne comprend pas.

I think I have some pics and data on the Works Cherries. I'll try and dig it out.

The Mirroux team is one of the most Datsun dedicated family I know!

The father, a Belgium Nissan dealer is in Datsun racing since the 70'. He had the chance to get one of the car Datsun used for the Monte-Carlo. It was too expensive to ship the car back to Japan so they dispatched the cars to some of the most “active” dealership in Europe. He got one and used it and all sort of specification, up to the full gp4 factory std.

Today they are racing the very same car in France in the Classic series. This is the fastest car of the whole gts class my an average one lap a race… They always finishing in the top 10 and just behind the Lolas, Chevron & GT40…

They also race a Fairlady roadster in historical rallies, and they still have the 120A coupe…

If you look in the era entries listing you will find the name… They also tried the 260 2+2 at spa without to much luck !

Today they still run the dealership and have close relationship with Nismo…

Oh that car. I understand now.

Interesting how the tale of it being "too expensive" to ship the cars back to Japan was told. In fact, Nissan shipped many Works cars back to Japan for re-furb or re-shelling, and these cars were then sent back out to compete in further events.

It was actually more expensive not to send the Japanese-registered cars back to Japan during the time their temporary export-use 'Carnet' numbers were valid. Big taxes had to be paid.

Do the Mirroux family ever tell anybody what 'Carnet' number the car originally had when it came from Japan? Which Monte was it used on?

I notice you said it was afterwards modified to full 'Factory' Group 4 standard, but the picture of a rear wheel removed shows a big two-pot brake caliper and a slotted rotor. Nothing like the Factory used. This is not another tall tale like Monsieur Bourgoin's "Le Mans" car is it?

Ah ah no sir... I had the chance to get into the car, and the flat trunk should be enough to smell the real thing. The car is a one of the race mule ... used for the reco...
The car have been striped down and rebuild to the spec. of the GTS serie. That's why it's not a gp4 anymore... but the engine... :D :D :D

sean i may be able to supply you with a turbo block and head for this little project from back in the days when they were raced. drop me an email if it is what you are looking for. cheers ben

Thanks all for support, piss-taking, offers etc ! Ben, I'll be in touch when we know more about what we can do to the car and what parts Nissan (NISMO) can supply us !
Count - it may be expensive but maybe less than a Z and I'd rather be selling Zs to those with the money to race/rally them over here than compete against them ! A similar engined car to mine was road tested at a real 250 flywheel bhp - it's enough for the road, if I went track racing I'd have to have an IMSA style car with a a full blown stroker at 300+ and that's not going to happen !
I'm still waiting to hear from the 2+2 boyz about the competition history of their model - deafening silence, perhaps my count could enlighten us ???

Grolls, I'll have a look at your 'offer' thanks !

The Miroux car is fabulous - sounds great with the side exiting exhaust and goes like stink ! I beieve it's so well set up that even with less power (not much) than the big boys, it gives them a very hard time and is regularly finishing ahead of just about all the road cars, GT40 excepted and some of the Chevron B10s or is that 20s ? The two brothers, son of Dad, the ex-racer are really nice chaps but real bastards on the track and give it all ! Whatever, we want to call the car, it was never an off the shelf 240 !

Can't remember their names - forgettable people and not worth dirtying your sweet hands on Grolls mate so keep busy in NCP ! Don't know why you want a 2+2 for that, worked fine in my 240 (with the hatch closed in winter) ! Maybe you need the extra space or you have a fetish for fat ladies who sing ?
Surely one should want to know more about ones' Z model, ask some questions, read some books, after all I'm sure your cars are not just for supermarket runs....
