Datsun 100A

I'll place it here although it might nearly be right to place it in Race/Rally !

A Z spirited friend and I are contemplating a race project with - a 100A coupé or saloon ! Why ? Becasue there are already Zs racing and rallying over here and I hope to be instrumental in increasing their numbers but our budget is limited and there is a club maxi-1000 over here and we believe the 100A would be VERY competitive with enormous potentiel against:
Honda S800s
MG and Austin Healey Sprites
Renault 4cvs
Minis
Simcas etc

And is of course flying the Datsun flag ! We are currently looking at what the set up rules say, what mods we can do in the knowledge that NISMO has all the bits we need !

This isn't gonna happen overnight but in the meantime we are looking for ANY info that anyone has about running these cars, first hand or in their archives - any photos, race reports tech. specs. etc

We'll also be looking to land a few sponsors..... and are hoping to have it all ready for the 2007 season !

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

A sign that your 3.1 Z isnt up to expectation's,Datsun 100A
will do,......................................DJZ 60.:D

2+2 = Everything!

Who's is the car in the picture Sean ? I'm curious to know its history.

Or is it just an example of what your after ??

sean you have to build , this but make sure its lowered a little,re info check out datman as he probably has parts plus info on any nismo race bits
how about ill be a stand in driver for you, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Rob, I don't know (yet) - it is an example of what I'm looking for !
DJ - Cathy says I can't race the 3.1 so must look elsewhere, wouldn't mind trying a 260 2+2 (to be different) but need something more competitive !
Steve, am in contact with Will but I feel NISMO will be my best contact !

It’s a Japanese racer photographed at one of the Nismo festivals, if you want more about the car or driver you have to ask the Count! Probably the picture is taken by him, so is this one!!!

Sean,

A soft-back book called 'Tuning Datsuns' by Paul Davies covers the 100A as well as the rest of the range. It also has a picture of two 100A race cars side-by-side, in a similar paint scheme to car in your picture.

If you don't have this book I have a copy you could have. PM me.

I remember watching the small Janspeed Datsuns racing in the 70s.

Legendary5 - That ZG is fantastic, I want it!

having a top notch sorted car doen't make you a fast and reliable racer. I would say dont waste your money buying the okie kokie 2000, buy a cheapie, get lots of practice and watch and learn from the other drivers. i have seen many people come and go in the private racing world, some with small budgets and some with £100's k and they fair the same on the track, crap at first till they find thier feet. ;)

Hmmm!!! Grolls I can't see how you could go over the roof on a 100A...
As for the driving skills... I think it should not be too much of an issue here, we're talking +-100 hp 650kg front wheel drive... Ain't no formula one... I will all the experiment I had in moped racing... "keep it reeving":D :D :D

i just read this

When your on a budget, you cannot afford to test unreliable untested parts!
It's just cheaper to buy the best!
Does it make sense? That's why we are thinking of Nismo, it wont be more expensive in the end... And they are the only one still having the parts...

I've always wanted to race a 260 2+2, reasonable budget to buy, mechanics and body well known from my 240 experience and the car might run in saloon car rather than sports car (as it's a 2+2) so it could be rather competitive and just fun ! So I asked Grolls and DJ if they knew of any 2+2s racing and get clobbered for being over the top !
Anyway, the 100A will be even cheaper to run, even with the best parts (are you aware of what NISMO Z parts cost compared to 'ordinary upgrades ?) and we've found a race class for it - the 260 would be harder to place in a category over here !

Don't ever forget I had a 260 2+2 !

I'm with you Cuckoo !

Rob, I'd be very happy just to have some photocopied pages of your tuning guide or scanned or written in pigs' blood on papyrus - anything !

Sean,
The pic is of a Works 'SCCN' team Cherry that is part of Nissan's collection. It usually gets a run every year at the NISMO Festival, driven by the likes of Kazuyoshi Hoshino. Looks like the photo was taken in the pits at either FISCO or T.I. Circuit Aida?

I don't want to disappoint you unduly, but modifying a Nissan 'A' series engine to the same level as that Works car is going to cost you more than your Z has cost you. Little screamers are not for the faint hearted.....

And sorry, but don't expect NISMO to have anything whatsoever for it. You'll need to go to aftermarket specialists in Japan, and there are not very many that cater for the Cherry. You'll end up fabbing most of the parts yourself. It could be expensive.

The photo that Legendary5 posted is of a replica of a Works 240ZR that was built by my friend Shun Koike in Nagano, Japan. Quite a few ex-Works drivers took the wheel at past NISMO Festivals, but the car has been sold on now. That's my good pal Matsui san standing on the right ( he built the engine, tranny & diff for the car ).

sean, sorry i had a dig but i thought you were extracting urine! so i spent a while searching for a car that would suit your race needs, its on e bay now

Item number: 4531162311 :)

Merci Conte.

This is a project for 2006! We are still in the planning stage, and all those info are top help! ;)

About Nismo, after a long chat with the "Duke of Moucron" sir Mirroux, Nismo Japan still have a "little" batch of parts, and are usually prone to encourage old Dat to race, they give him a BIG support with their ex WORK 240Z.
They have been racing a 120A in Belgium in the 70' with some kind of success. It's some kind of Britt understatement, they where almost kicked out at Spa because they where too fast + 240 Km/h in the slope, tucked behind the big Mustang. The board was afraid the car would just blow in pieces :D !!!!
For him it wouldn’t be too hard/expensive to run one! We’ll see on paper!

Thank you all for this support, if I refer to your interest, you should start some kind of club project too…

Hi Sean.
You're not going 'over the top',quite the contrary, you're going Downhill.
What next a Sainbury's shopping Trolley or customised wheelbarrow?
I'm just trying to save your frustrated soul, from further anxieties &
time/money wasted on your project's.stick to your Go-karting & stop farting
about.Think positive, think big & Think of the 'Big Boy's as opposed to,playing at
racing on a small scale & on some oblivious dirt track & show some leadership &
guidence to Fred as well otherwise you will appear as 'Delboy & rodder's'.
DO IT ONCE.....................DO IT RIGHT.......................
LOVE................DJZ 60.

Hey, there is a slight margin between slot racing and Formula One, and we're after it !!!:D
Beside, the idea is to get attention for a new business Datsun oriented... while having FUN.
