Converting F54 Patrol L28 to 280Z L28 spec

Hey guys,

I have picked up an L28 from a Patrol and wondered what in total needs changing to make it Z car spec. As far as I was aware it's mainly cam and carb? I'll have to double check it but I vaguely remember it being a N42 head.

I would check the sump and oil pick up, probably a different design. The oil filter may attach to side of block rather than be on an angled mount/take off plate as per rhd cars. So u may need that mount to avoid hitting the steering column. Not sure but as u say I would suspect a different cam. Flywheel possibly heavier? Different pulleys on the front for power steering?

I don't know anything about the differences in a patrol really, except I've got one in storage that came in bits, but without sump and flywheel. So in summary, I don't know anything useful :)
If it's an F54 block, I'd expect it to be a P90 head.

I bought an angled mounting plate - think it was off a 280ZX. It had oil take-offs for a cooler.

Found it...

I use one of those, its from 280zx, and I think its coincident with F54 blocks.
did 280zs ever have F54 blocks?

I was just eluding to I don’t think it’s a standard figment on a RHD S30. It may well be an option...

The angled oil filter take off is to stop the filter hitting the steering.......................in a 280zx. It will be fine in a 240z.

Thanks Guys!

Think I've got a cam off Gary to go in. Ive got the original L26 I can grab bits off too if needed but I was also planning to run a lightened fly.

As for the mounting plate with the L26 one work if needed?

Do you mean the plate that goes between the engine and the gearbox? (is that a sandwich plate?) I've probably got one if you need it.
