Club 240z? Minter? Bargain?

This was 7.5 years ago when i tried to buy it, i had a budget and had to stick to it, i am very happy with mine and in all honesty i could not afford one now at these prices !!

If it was actually worth £12-13k 7.5 years you could say its worth the cash now, it'd be worth finding out what the 'restoration' consisted of, what was done/replaced and see some pics etc.

There was a a red/orange one pop up on eBay for £17,500 recently. The advert lasted a day!

ultimately, as with all Zeds, no matter what price point they are advertised at, it's difficult to make an assessment from a few photos. Nothing will beat actually looking at the car in question, and/or talking in detail to someone who knows it in real life.

Unless it's obviously a bloody good deal worth taking a chance on (remember that orange project car a few weeks ago for 4.5k?!), one needs to look at the thing and inform one's opinion that way.

The tried and tested advice for new S30 buyers is educate yourself via the internet but also hook up with some current owners, at shows, local meets etc., and get to look at the cars. This will help build up an idea of the range of quality, values, what to look out for, ideas on how much work would cost to fix specific issues, etc.

I personally think that blue car looks pretty good. I'd be looking to see what damage had been done by the brake fluid leak mentioned (probably will need some inner wing repainting to do a decent job). There's no mention of rust but I'd be investigating all the usual risk areas to check if there was any sign of anything and if so, how pressing that would be. It may be worth the money, but again, looking at the thing up close will shape a final view on that if factoring in any work that needs to be done.

Duncan (Z Farm) may still know this car too, so might have an informed view based on it being his handiwork.

Incidentally, there's another 240z on now for 12.5k. More original (I.e. L24) in spec - has the same issues as the blue one though, paint marked by brake fluid! People should use silicone fluid then they wouldn't have that problem! ;) also mentions "no visible rust". Which is fine - but it's the rust you can't see immediately that bites you in the wallet later!

Edit: that red one also has a sunroof I notice (which for the reference Madda, knocks off some value).

Jason.
The £12,995 was last year, 7.5 years ago he wanted £9600 for it, I told him I had £8500 only, having got a loan for that amount, but turned it down several times? In the end he e bayed it for guess what......£8500 :lol:The first thing he told me bout the car was the electric windows and central locking like I cared for them, shame as I liked the car but never went to see it cos he was never going to reduce it ,so I got mine:thumbs:

Sorry, I misread. The good thing is that it would have cost him a fair chunk in ebay fees also.

Just found the advert from last year, the guy who was selling it from Bristol said it was restored 2/3 years ago?? While the new seller says restored some years ago?? So well worth doing some digging eh !!

Another MInter?

If I didn't have one already lined up Id be on this.

I think completely original must be better in terms of collectibility, but an L28 and carbs are great improvements I would imagine.

Hi All,

Another minter, bargain has appeared on e-bay, red 240z 12,500. We pursued this car out of great interest, I even spoke to one of the club "guru" for advice and we managed to get hold of the so call owner. He said " the car belongs to my father, he is on holiday in Norfolk for his annual four months, however you can purchase the car from me and your logbook will follow" . What!?@&& . :D

At the end of the day pretty much everything in life has a value which almost universally equates to what someone is willing to pay. It matters little if at all of opinion or pontification from the sidelines. I have watched with interest the advertised prices for early Z's which have soared in the UK (particularly RHD versions) over the last year or two. Scarcity I wonder is the main driver. Beyond that originality seems a significant factor. A pretty decent and well sorted/restored RHD 240/260z available in the UK seems to attract £16-22000.00 and exceptional cars can probably attract something approaching £30,000.00

Don't worry about originality. People have been modifying Zeds since the beginning. Very few people actually have "original" ones. Most on here are modified or personalized to some degree. The whole cork-sniffing originality = collect-ability thing leaves me cold personally, as do (controversial personal opinion coming up) most entirely factory standard Zs. I can definitely appreciate them, but wouldn't want one myself (well, unless it was a Fairlady Z432).

That car on eBay looks nice IMO. I have to pick out the untruth in the blurb though about "factory power windows"! Er, no...

Also, another lazy blighter with central locking (I'm looking at you Dale!).

Can understand your viewpoint Rich and I thought the same until I got an original one. There is something very special about a car that has not been taken apart or abused. My blue tastefully modified car is lovely to drive and looks more sporty but if I sold one of them I would be really hard-pushed to decide which one. Asking prices - do you sell based on what you bought it for or the 'market' price? Think about houses, antiques, jewellery etc.

That car on ebay is worth a serious look imo - not perfect even from photos but it might make a great car. Shame about the top strut holes though.

I noticed the front strut mounts to,

do you think it has had some other struts in there before ? can see any other reason for the holes being there

I do agree with you Rob. I think a totally original car is special as you say. I just like a certain degree of modification on personal taste grounds. With an original car, I'd be caught between an impetus to preserve and a desire to go faster, look slightly more aggressive etc. You have the right setup though, one original, and one to play a bit harder in! :)

I spoke to Z-Farm about this one when I called to discuss the head he supplied for the car I eventually bought.

He was of the opinion it was a tidy car and worth the asking and said that a trader had bought it and another one the same week and just planned to squirrel them away somewhere.

Personally I think this is sad, I have been using mine today, and they are cars which should be driven!! On a dry sunny day only of course. :)
