Classic Car Weekly - 280ZX service guide

A question why does everybody go on about a classic?
The Z club is not and never has been a classic car club because it caters for all the fairlady range:bow:
You would have thought at times that the Z Club was the S30 car club:rolleyes:

Maybe the S30 owners should get behind the rest of the fairlady range and give it more support:p

Over the last few years it has not been S30 owners who have mostly been committee members and been responsible for trying to keep the club alive in fact most of the committee have owned S130 in one form or another
Myself
Mike Feeney
Suzy
Geoff Gale
Paul Wrangle
Pete Parmenter

But why are you the only one upholding it's honour where are the others?

Just been looking at the 2008 Zclub calendar not a 280 in sight.:conf2:

Must admit I have always liked the 280ZX 2 seater quite a rare sight, there was a 2 seater on ebay a couple of months back sold for starting bid of £150 looked quite good condition aswell.

I think the 280 is extremely underrated! The 280 (especially the 2 seater) is a smart looking car. A new set of wheels completely transforms them! Does anyone remember a blue one? (owned by Steve from Newcastle).
That was a stunning car! (I'll try and hunt some pictures out).
Although I own a 240, I have a big softspot for the 280ZX as it was my first Z Love!!!

I see a lot of people on this thread writing simply "280".

Which model exactly are they referring to?
*North American market S30-series 'Datsun 280Z'?
*Japanese market S130-series Nissan Fairlady 280Z / Fairlady 280Z-L / Fairlady 280Z-T etc etc?
*North American market S130-series 'Datsun 280ZX'?
*Other export market S130-series 'Datsun 280ZX' models?

Forgetting / ignoring the fact that the Japanese market had an S130-series '280Z' model is always going to cause confusion. No wonder the journalists get it wrong if the owners themselves can't be more accurate and specific.

The forum section names on this very site seem to ignore many of the Japanese market models ( where's the S130 '280Z' section, for example? I see only '280ZX'...... ). It does not seem very academic to ignore their existence in the 'family' just because there might not be that many of them over here or in the club. Clubs need to lead by example - and clubs that have mottos such as "One Club, ALL The Cars" really ought to acknowledge the whole family of models in the Z and ZX ranges.

Well it actually says -

"
280ZX
Anything relating to the 280ZX. Including domestic market S130s and other non-European exports.
"

Personally I would just stick with chassis codes but I get accused of being anal, or some other crap.

Funny how everyone seems to like referring to 300ZX's as Z31's or Z32's though:conf2:

Read it all again and quote me where I was naughty ! I've got two of them - you've only a kit car with a badly spelt name on the bonnet and a fat lip of a spoiler !

Well you haven't really but you haven't said that you would sell the 240(the one without a spoiler & painted in sick colour) & make do with just your 280's have you.:p

You don't get it do you - I already have two 280ZXs and one of them already goes quicker than Mr Blobbys' kit-car turbo version !
I'll keep my 240 to show you how things have evolved since RaceHead services.......

I bought Classic Car Weekly and found the service guide useful, nice one Mike. I have a 1980 2+2 280zx same colour as the one in the article, but mine is manual.

What might be worth considering is that 'younger' people (under 35) thinking of getting into the classic car scene wont really remember the 60s or early 70s cars. They will be more interested in the late 70s and 80s. That is the angle I took anyway. I was looking for a reliable classic, not too old, Jap and something you dont see every day plus I did not have a massive budget. When the 280ZX came up I could not remember ever seeing one before. And judging by the looks I get driving about most guys of my age and younger have never seen one before either.

Gets me thinking - it would be useful to know some more of the 280ZX owners' profiles ! Better to target them for membership, articles, events etc....

A bit late to add to the thread but, I thought the service guide was pretty good, I look forward to using it... I've had a 280ZX 2str for about 16 yrs. Admittedly its been in 'restoration' (bits to you and me) for about 9 of those years. I will finish it....soon.

Sorry its a bit off topic but would anyone still have a copy of classic cars weekly that they would be willing to check ? There was an advert for some brand new Vauxhall Nova doors in there but my partner has said she's thrown my copies away!
