Hee, hee - yours is more of a kit car than his though... !

The 280 turbo was introduced because the 280 had lost so much ground compared to the 240 !

You've destroyed as many cars as I and left someone else to keep your 260 on the road !

If you don't want to build up 'useless' arm muscles (I know your masticoids are over-developed) then fit power-steering on yer Zs !

I still have a red light flashing on my latest Z......but it's a shift light.

I refer back to my original comment which was 'reflected upon' by the man - it's still a shame that magazines need to stick up a completely unrelevant library photo of a car no longer belonging to that particular owner in order to attract people to buy and read an article that may leave them dissatisfied (as they bought it for Zs not ZXs) !

Here Here!

ZXs should be able to stand up for themselves and who for example is using them in historic racing ? They have a superb pedigree.....sorry, speak up ?

Paul Newman did OK in one though!

Fact is they were unloved by the press from the start, unaided by Datsun UK !

What can I say except that Sean is right!

That must mean a 240/260 is a mans car then, power steering is for girls. :D:D:D

That's why ! Figured you were having a dig so I'd have a dig back ! Ture, there aint many early Zs about with 250 + unless they're hybridz and if none of you've tried my Z with it's steering - don't knock it :p!

Rob G may disagree but he hasn't stopped improving his car so is obviously dis-satisfied with it somewhere !

I love our 280ZXs too Steve - I just hate yours

Hi,
The funny thing is, that the Classic? Z Register have a large advert next to the article about servicing your 280ZX???!!
Couldn't see the Z Club though??
And I still can't see why you're waffling on about 240/260z's, when this is a 280ZX thread about 280ZX servicing??

I'll explain it clearly then Jez (it is highlighted after all by your oberservation of another clubs' ad.) - despite Mikes' efforts and time and that of the 280ZX owner (s), it is STILL the Zs that are anticipated to attract the buying public to the magazine !

That is wrong, not correct and should be pursued further by the club - ie, a clear direction given by the committee !

Zs are Zs and despite the odd error here and there are well written up now. Later ZXs and the 350Zs are prettu well covered.

The 280ZX has been (for too long) the forgotten, ugly sister, a bit frumpy and a sort of sad go-between between the classic Zs and super car 300ZXs !

It needs changing...and my first comment still rings true - it's still seen that only Zs sell mags, not 280ZXs !

More probably, they only had that photo in their library and wanted a nice bright colour car for the front page...I doubt whether the pictures editor would know one Z from another (ZX)!!

If I had read the article in the paper and thought, I might like to buy a 280ZX and then did a search on the web for 280ZX's, I would be very disappointed to have come across this thread about the article... on reading it's contents!
If you've got issues about the coverage in the press of 280ZX's, then perhaps this isn't the best thread to air them, as it diverts from the original theme.
This thread has degenerated into the usual tosh that permeates this site !

At least people would be talking about them instead of just breaking 'em up for parts !

You're a great champion against us whingers but......what is the club doing FOR 280ZXs ?

You want to launch a 280ZX high-profile campaign and have the club build a 280ZX racer ? There was black one on ebay that sold for a few hundred pounds just the other day - why not have the club buy one and everyone chip in and rent it out for track days (insured at those events of course) , Invite a selection of journalists down to test-drive, two Japfests per year plus and start the ball rolling to elevate the press' and publics low opinion of the cars !

It's easy just talking about us talking about them.....

Which is why I persuaded Adam Tait to do the article based around the fact that I had two nice 280ZXs to offer him. Where possible I will do what I can to promote the perceived "ugly duckling".

The problem lies not with the journalist, but with the fact that he switched tracks from what the editor had presumed the article to be. They obviously didn't read the article before planning the cover. Adam took some nice front end shots of the featured cars which could have been used instead.

have the club build a 280ZX racer

Already a good representative drag racer out there - not your thing maybe, but still a great ambassador for the 280ZX in one form of motorsport.

It does seem strange though useing a pic of a 240 & saying 240-280Z when the article is only about 280ZX's not even a 280Z, there was a pic inside of 2 rear ends of ZX's surely the editor could have found a front end pic for the front cover & if he couldn't he should have been pointed in the right direction, surely they can't be that bad that no one has taken any.

True - there is one out there but that one has changed nothing of the publics' perception of the ZX scene you had it - a shame but a fact as borne out by the latest article !

It also isn't aiding any 'classic' status of the 280ZX which is why I suggested a classic racer, perhaps capitalising on the P Newman connection.....could also be a hill-climb car but probably more effective with a larger audience on circuits. Easier to 'test' drive too for journalists !

Finally, Mike, as much as you do (and we did discuss it and I think it was a great idea and effort), you are not the club - where is the club , now that the magazine is (or soon will be) virtual online, there isn't even a hard copy (of 280ZX pushing articles, photos) to send to journalists of the motoring press - what's is filling the vacuum ? - rhetorical question !

How many 280 owners actually come onto the forum coz apart from bigchef putting 2 peneth in there is only Steve that has said anything in the cars defence.

A question why does everybody go on about a classic?
The Z club is not and never has been a classic car club because it caters for all the fairlady range:bow:
You would have thought at times that the Z Club was the S30 car club:rolleyes:

Maybe the S30 owners should get behind the rest of the fairlady range and give it more support:p

Over the last few years it has not been S30 owners who have mostly been committee members and been responsible for trying to keep the club alive in fact most of the committee have owned S130 in one form or another
