Car tilting lifts - CJ Autos

Good write-up Ali.

Personally that would scare me. Both from a safety point of view and a car structure point of view.

Yes older 260s and 240s have very shallow floor supports.

I support my cars under the engine crossmember so the jack and stands are taking the weight of the engine. At the rear I use the diff subframe.

I am sure some Zs would bend Ali - either like a banana or the floors go up. Perhaps they shouldn't be on the road.

I like your long wooden 'tracks' for the car, however it would limit access when in the garage.
I store ladders under my Z and it can get tight.

I'd lift with option 3.

Thanks JP - that gives me more confidence.

Will probably need to invest in a couple of these but again it's a question of storage space so I will be researching more.

The pictures really don't show how scary it looks in the flesh or how high up the front of the car is.
They show exactly how scary it looks And if it looks scary then it is scary.
And dangerous...
IMO of course.
And the one job that you need some height to undertake ie gearbox out/in you cant do with this set up??
WTF!!???

Yeah - I happen to agree with you Pete, it really is scary and potentially dangerous but I do think it can be made safe with the stands, no?

So do you think it's dangerous because the car will snap in half at the firewall or because of the potential to seesaw on top of you?

Gearbox job aside, it seems useful for the diff swap and exhaust job I am doing this year. Especially as my current header and y pipe + rest of exhaust have joined in holy matrimony and need to come out in one piece :(

you'll be able to get it into your loft with those!

And isn't that that truth!!!!!!!!

Those stands look good to me. When you consider that they are not taking the weight of the car there should be no problem. The cars weight is taken by the lift and the lift is not likely to move around so these axle stands are not likely to topple over. The axle stands are just preventing the see saw action taking place.
