Brake Caliper Comparison

This is in reference to a question asked about the weights of different calipers, but I can't find the original post, so started a new thread!

I'm lucky enough to currently own 3 types of brake setup for the classic Z, (240 260 280) so I have weighed them and their brake pads for future comparison. (I've also put the disc sizes)

If anyone would like to add further aftermarket options, feel free! :)

Standard 260z calipers and pads:
Weight: 4425g
Disc Size: 270mm
Disc Weight:
Total Weight per side:

Disc Size: 332mm
Disc Weight: 7.4Kg
Total Weight per side: 11.2Kg (approx.)

Some really valuable information. Thanks

Shame you didn't have the more common Toyota Hilux 4 pots as well in the mix?

Good start.

Now we need the weight of the discs. (which can be quite heavy).

Are those 3 for non vented or vented discs? My kitchen scales only go up to 5000g but at a guess Hilux calipers are roughly 5300g.

All vented except the standard discs.
Will weigh discs and update first post as we go!

(Picky buggers! ;) )

Did weigh the standard disc and caliper compared with the hilux caliper and z31 vented disc a while ago. Can't do the latter individually as they're now fitted.

Yes I know - when I upgraded my brakes to Wilwood the calipers were light, the discs were by far the heaviest component. There the weight of the whole 'package' is best for those who think they'll notice.

On the basis that above weight includes pads, the Hilux is around 0.7kg heavier than stock. And Wilwoods are 1.2kg lighter than stock. Let's assume that weight of discs remains constant in all 3 applications on basis that 270mm , used.

Is the extra 0.7KG or reduced 1.2KG of unsprung weight really noticeable on the street ?

Is that with the pads and radial mount? These things need to be compared like for like which is difficult.

Politicians are very good at making number suit the point they are trying to get across.

Another example is when my wife wants to buy somethin, or has already bought it and wants it to appear cheaper than it was. She forgets its exact price or rounds down or leaves the VAT off when asked how much it is/was (one of my pet hate's).

Disc weight can vary as some setups will use a rotor and top had config, some vented, some solid

Lets compare apples and apples please
