So my little fire was fun!!! To be honest I’m pretty happy because I got lucky, really lucky. There’s a cut in the main loom going through the fire wall which has caused a short and the wires got a little but got in 2 other places in the bay. Just under the battery and right on top of my fuel line. Like I say, real lucky. Glad to have that fire extinguisher even though I didn’t need it as didn’t fully catch. I was planning to redo the lights anyway and as I’m only using part of this loom I think it’s time to do a decent job and replace what little I was using anyway. Great to get out in it for a little while and good to see some faces.

......glad it wasn’t too serious, you might finally get around to wiring up your screen wash at the same time!

Alright, alright, I’ll get some washer jets working just to please you!

How about you sort your lights out too so we don’t have to push you off a motorway slip road again!

Happy new year!

You can talk Mike, have you fixed your headlights yet?? :p

That was a close one with your little fire, that's not related to the smoking steering column you had a while back is it?

So what I would be trying to understand is why your wiring wasn't protected by the fusing?

Delayed response to add to Neil’s comment, I also had a 15 amp fuse on my lighting circuit and didn’t realise until now which is why it was heating up in the first place. I never checked the fuses were correct when I imported the car back in 2015 as the lights always worked. Chatting with an auto electrician friend who said he tested a 25amp old glass fuse and it didn’t blow until over 50amps so by the same calculations I was running 30 through a circuit aimed for 10! Lucky escape.
