"The owner doesn't actually seem to acknowledge what it is and what it requires"

Why should he? He hasn't asked for advice regarding the body and he's stated time and again he's not worried about it as he knows someone who can fix it. Seeing as nobody knows him personally why can't you just take that at face value?
So he's bought a car which he was hoping was rust free and it wasn't. Big deal. He won't be the last. You want him to throw it away but he wants to try and salvage it. Accept it.

"I see no real evidence that this will happen"

That's not surprising as it only went yesterday and only he knows.

"He's been throwing good money after bad"

Maybe BUT IT'S HIS MONEY!. What concern is that of yours?

Blimey it's tedious typing all this out when one doesn't know how to use this quote feature, although as Albrecht said I really haven't a clue what's going on here.

But at least i'm not a bigot.

Use either the 'quote' button (for a single quote) or the m button (for multi quote) and use that button on each post that you want to quote then when you go to reply they will all be there.

Dictionary definition of the word 'bigot': "A person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions".

Don Muscles said:
"Do not really care about opinions."

"Do not care about the way people have attempted the restorations before."

"I see no problem whatsoever..."

"But I do not care at all...."

"You will never be right.."

"You do not know me... So you really can not comment.."

"My opinion.."

"Do not need a debate over it.."

"Not interested in a debate either."

QED.

Just wonder where Don picked up all those thoughts from. Maybe he has picked up some thing from here at last:rolleyes:

You're quite right of course. It's not his fault. It's ours.

No, actually it's mine. I take sole responsibility.

It's a fair cop, but society is to blame.

I put my post up after an enjoyable day in the pub and far too many drinks to count.
Never thought that it would rattle somebody so much that they would have to go back through the entire thread for quotes.
Think it's time to step away from the computer for a while. ;)

If you think I'm somehow 'rattled' you're just making another misjudgment. What worries me is that people like you can read through a thread like this (presuming you've even taken the time to do that...) and see the situation as something it quite clearly isn't. That might be because you're looking a little bit too closely at my posts and ignoring all the other people who are basically saying the same things as me.

It wasn't that hard to go back for those quotes. He's made plenty more besides, and leaves plenty of fresh air between them so they stand out like greyhound's eggs on a snowy path.

Talking of which, your main contribution to the thread appears to have been limited to a side-splitting link about the dangers of lighting farts.

Great stuff. Keep it up.

I think the indefatigable Mr Muscles and the incredulous Albrecht are quite enjoying themselves - and it makes for great reading. Can't wait to see how it all ends and who is proved right. Though I know who my money is on . . .

What do you think will happen when the page number goes beyond 99? Will it crop it off? Did the developers that built this site ever envisage a post getting this long? That's all I can think about when I look at this thread now. :D

I feel like a dead horse is being beaten here, there are plenty of other more, let's say 'traditional' restorations going on and it's pretty clear Don has already decided to go ahead with his unique way of doing things.

The worst that could happen is Don has enough of the comments and stops posting his progress which I'm sure none of want to see happen, I for one certainly want to see what the end result is.

It's obviously not going to be a concours restoration but in any case it's going to be a damn sight better than what the car started off as and another car back on the road.

No, there is no error handling code for “ego buffer overflow”

.... and another car back on the road.

I guess that depends on what the bodywork guy says or does when he gets into the nitty-gritty of the shell.

Another pertinent question - will we get in-progress pics to show how this bodywork restoration is going to be undertaken? If the guy is as good as Don says he is, this could be quite illuminating...

No more updates fellas - Don is back at school.

I recall he said his tutoring /teaching lessons were to commence in early October so it could be Christmas (end of term) before updates are posted.:smash:

Sounds like a uni lecturer then, they've only just gone back ... I hope the figures add up in the end. Driving to Bedford yesterday I did give Don and his car a second thought as I sped by his place!

You must have smiled at least once reading this thread....

No not even once mate.:(
I did try and help initially when Mr Muscle asked for help about the clutch master cylinder.
But that ended up being rejected outright by him so I lost interest.
Im busy helping some other relately new owners off forum which is always satisfying.
In addition Skiddell, Zbloke and myself have got lots of our own stuff planned for the winter.:driving:

I'm up your way to deliver some scuba stuff to skids in November ,so mine is 3 sugars and don't forget the biccys Pete, got a couple questions regarding s14 gearboxes when we speak
