280zx injector cooling fan?

Here's a question for the 280zx and some Z31 owners that are fitted with a injector cooling fan setup, how long do these fan come on for and when do they come on, I ask the question as I'm considering fitting one to my 240z for the summer if it gets hot. just to help with heat soak of the injectors.

The fan is for hot climates. The workshop manual implies that the timer unit will let the fan operate for approx. 17 minutes after the ignition is turned off if temperature sensing switch gives a reading above 100 degrees C. This is an additional switch to the thermotime and ECU temperature senders and is also located in the front of the thermostat housing.

If the fan runs continuously there is possibly a fault with either the timer unit or the temperature sender...

The Z31 system is virtually identical, but the temperature sensor is located alongside #2 spark plug.

Looks like i need something like this, I'm first goint to fit a good heat sheild to the turbo area then see how it holds out, when in hot soak.as it's after about 15mins of sitting there that the problem occurs.
The RB boys won't have this problem as they use crossflow heads, now there's an idea!!!!

Nick,
I have never had any heat soak issues with my twin turbo setup.
Best thing I ever did was to fit turbo socks to the turbos.
It is a shaped jacket that you slide round the exhaust housing and is held in place with springs attached to the material. Cost approx £150 each, got mine from AET turbos.

I've heard these socks do a great job, but I've also heard that they can reduce the life of your turbo. I don't know if this is just hearsay or if there may be some truth in it especially if your running just an oil cooled turbo.

yes I might try one of those if it sorts the problem then it's money well spent, heat sheild first, then turbo sock...
