Does anyone know what the two blanking plates on the right are for? It feels like there should be something like a pair of electric window switches there! I’m looking to modify a stock switch to go there to do other things and would like it to look “correct” but nowhere have I found a photo with actual factory fitted switches there. Have I not googled hard enough?

Hi Ali

On mine, that is where the 2 parking light switches go. I don't think all 260Z had them so that could just be a blanking plate - Mine is the JDM model.

As Farmer42 says, they are for the Left and Right parking switches on the Japanese market models.

what do they do? toggle the left switch and the left side lights come on sort of thing?

Yes. Individual ignition-off (car locked and unattended) control for left or right side illumination of side lights at the front and (usually dedicated) parking light bulb in the rear clusters.

Some areas of Japan used to demand this for cars parked at night on streets without lighting. Great business for battery manufacturers...

Albrecht / Farmer42, thank you very much gents!

I’m guessing those switches are pretty rare to come by, given what you wrote.

Mine came with a couple of electric window switches (Mercedes I think). Not wired up but I may remedy that one day. Not very clear pic.

I also have a switch in the hole next to the one circled in your pic. It's got a plug from the loom attached to the back of it but doesn't seem to do anything. Could that be for fog lights or something?

Scrap that, it's the hazard lights. The extra switch is in the blanking plate above the one circled.

Scanning and monitoring Yahoo Japan auctions probably would give the the best chance of finding them. Make sure you don't get addicted though...
