So chatting to Ricky Evans Motorsport this morning & he’s happy to develop/ manufacture a batch of new heated rear screens.
He currently makes them for a well known specialist but can’t sell them or use their tooling .
The new screens will be of toughened glass with horizontal elements as per original. The catch is he needs an initial order of 20
the cost would be circ £250 +vat +shipping (will also ship internationally)
So many screens like mine don’t work or have bars not working . Question is who would be interested????

Do you know, I started this conversation with him in the summer and then both parents decided to frequent hospitals and I totally forgot about it!

So in essence it's £300 in Vat and assuming postage of say £50 - that seems quite reasonable to me for what is a speciality item.

I'm definitely down for one if you're collecting numbers. I often find my rear screen mists up and have looked at many after-market solutions - none of which seemed to be good enough for my tastes!

Hi, I’d be interested in a rear screen, just building my 240z back up after having it restored. Mines a 73 so horizontal heater elements would be fine. I’m assuming theyre plain to match the original glass?

Put me down for one Neil. Even though one of my cars has a vertical, it’s a late ‘73 so I’m sure should be horizontal anyway.

It might be worth confirming exactly what your original glass was, and whether the Ricky Evans-sourced version will match that (if required).

The majority of UK market HS30Q Datsun 240Z models came with Nissan Temperlite glass manufactured by Asahi, and which had a tint. There are manufacturing codes on the glass which - when deciphered - give you the spec of the glass and the date of manufacture. I think you'll find that '72 and '73 UK market cars (like yours) had the M-224 bluey-green tint.

It might also be worth confirming the type of heating element that the Ricky Evans-sourced versions use. Are they integral fine wire type (as in his heated front screens) or are they the glued-on metallic element as per OEM?

That’s great info, TY. Will have to check when I slop out the garage later - got flooded yesterday as Noah was sailing past us and the tide rose above the water barrier behind the door. :(

When I spoke with Ricky in the summer he said they are NOT the integral type - but worth reconfirming.

Now one question back at you, were they glued or silkscreen printed?

The second bummer is that it won't fit a 2/2.☹️
Well, I found stick on defrosters if that’s any good to you but the reason I was asking about the silk screen printing is that if glued it would be easy to remove the old ones but way way helmet if printed.

You don’t really want to go over the old ones as the aftermarket stick on ones have a marginally different separation.

Edit: see here: https://www.holden.co.uk/files/080_109_fitting_instructions_revised.pdf
