Hi Sean,
I´ve driven some cars with scarry braking abilities but i´ve been scared sh****ss yet with the brakes on my 260Z. They work just as I would expect them to do. They are more than capable to lock up the front wheels !!!!!!!!!!
Maybe with another 40 -50 bhp they would not be sufficient but I could do with a lot more things as well to make my 260z it a real track / road warrior. I suppose time will tell

No dust seals on the pistons is a complaint I've heard. I'd like to know different.

I brought a front upgrade set from Fourways in about 1991. An AP 4 pot caliper and vented discs. An expensive option, but good, though won't fit 14" wheels, as the calipers caught on the inside of the Wolfraces I had.

Doesn't fitting a 260 2+2 servo make a bit of difference, as it is a slightly larger diameter? Or is this not worth it?

I've done this and fitted a larger bore master cylinder from a 280ZX. It doesn't improve the braking any more, just less effort and less pedal travel. Does inspire a bit more confidence though.

Hi Nick - nothing to do with the thread, my mate has the plate N1EK F but has the middle bar of the E about a centimetre long so it reads Nick F..... useless info but there you go :D It's on a black M3 Cabriolet.

...let us know how you get on, the wilwood kit is one I'm intersted in.

I have the Motosport auto 4 pot setup with braided lines which works very well, albeit with one piece solid disks.

Just thought I'd put up some photos of what we're talking about !

Plus a shot of the 'new' affordable rear disc brake set up !

Sorry about the intrusive spark plug - it's there for scale !

Well, I ended up with Wilwood's.

The dust seals are a concern, but only a minor one. As my car will not be used in all weathers they shouldn't get to mucky and if I do a track day then the idea is to give them a bit of a clean to remove dust build up. Also an idea not to run the pads down to the death.

Better picture for you all (cos not only is Sean crap at using the quote function, crap at using the crop function after scanning in photos, he's also crap at taking photos) :p:D;)

Ouch :) Hey, I just follow the screen which says upload here - how do you get the photo to come up like that ?

I confess, I'm crap at cropping after scanning but my quoting has improved with some sharp stick prodding by the Count !

As for taking phtographs - stuff you - they were on Daves' garage floor, it was late, Jackie had prepared a currey and she AND Cathy were hollering at us MEN 'cos we'd spent to much time in the garage !

Have you often wondered at how time does go quicker when in a garage discussing MANLY things ? I swear that the clock goes faster - it's the same when I'm on this site and she hollers dwon from the bedroom - "ten minutes passed 1 hour ago - are you gonna warm my ..... or aren't you ?"

Bottom line is, Wilwood are still the bo**ocks for non-super Zs and are easy to bolt on - no DIYing with Range Rover this and Ford that, cutting brake pads to fit and the like !Not bad in the looks dept. but don't ask the Count to approve of 'em 'cos a) they come from the US and b) they aint period !

You can't be serious. I reckon you've just got worse if anything. Your latest style makes it look as though the person whom you are quoting is answering their own questions whilst shouting. It makes my head hurt.

Nissan themselves offered an easy bolt-on vented disc four-pot caliper that fitted underneath stock 14" wheels from 1969 ( Sumitomo MK63-20S ). They used them on the Works race and rally cars, and their availability from the Nissan 'Sports Option' lists is what homologated their use in competition. Still available too. Got them on both of my cars.

A. I have no problem with parts from the USA, as long as they are good parts.
B. 'Period' is what I am interested in, but other people can ( and do ) do what they want.

You're a hard man - I'll just get better then !

And they cost how much to those of us who don't have access to easy shipping from Japan ? Serious question re other thread :) - PM me if you're timid !
Don't know why but I keep getting the message 'your message is too short' when I try to submit so I'm wrioting this to pass the censors !

Thanks for the Wilwood details.
Allan, would like to look into the Nissan option would you have the part Nos? Any factory mods for rear?
Would like to keep to 14" wheels have a set of Watanabes that I want to use.
Present thoughts on brakes crossed drilled and grooved rotors, high performance brake fluid and competition pads and linings.
This should be more than adequate for a slightly modded engine
One can also vent the drums by drilling a series of small holes but not sure how effective it is
My daily driver is a 1962 Holden EK ute (pickup) with the number plate
HEK 000

Hi Nick,

Sumitomo MK63 four-pot brake kit parts:

*41000-A1281 - Caliper Assy FR RH ( vented rotor type )
*41010-A1281 - Caliper Assy FR LH ( vented rotor type )
*40206-E4621 - Rotor Disc Brake FR ( vented ) for pre Sept. 1973 cars.
*40206-N3120 - Rotor Disc Brake FR ( vented ) for post Sept. 1973 cars.

You would need all the mounting hardware too - but it all bolts on without any adaptors or extra bracketry. Discs will certainly be NLA but alternatives are easy to find.

The Works race and rally cars used these calipers on the rear as well from around mid-1972, with the correct bracketry and different discs.
