Superslots were made by Cobra I think, while the Wolfrace's were called CKN or CXN. Mine are Wolfies and I think the Cobra's are pretty much identical.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

More or less the same, close inspection of both wheels will reveal slight difference in slot shape.

Cobra's are lighter.

I believe my car is the perfect example

Wolfies on the front and what i believe to be 'cobra slotmags' on the back
notice the difference in shape of the 'slots'

Anthony :)

Wolfrace were taken under the GKN industry banner for a while, but back in the '70s / '80s. Now a company in their own right again, I believe, but not producing or dealing with the slot-mag market any more.

I actually met Mr Wolfrace himself not so long ago. A burley South African.

We chatted about Slot-mags and I asked if he'd consider producing them again.
He said he gets requests for them all the time. The problem was that everyone who asked needed a different fitment or size. So the answer was "no".

I mentioned that I have a set of 4 (now sold), and he was welcome to buy them off me to perhaps make some coffee tables for the corporate office.
The answer was "no".

Back in the dawn of time my 240 used to have what I thought were Woolfies but were in fact something like "ARE" (American Racing Equipment???) Anyhow..

If one (very posh oop North you know) was looking to buy a set of wheels for a 240, what do you have to take into consideration technically speaking? For example, what is the PCD? PDC? er...distance between holes and do we need / want any "offset"? I have no idea, these are just phrases I have seen on various adverts. Anybody care to enlighten me? Please.

PCD = pitch circle diameter, i.e. the diameter of the circle drawn through the centres of the mounting holes. Most oldies would quote this as 4.5", but the modern metric generation like to say 114.3mm. This measurement also holds true for the Z31 and Z32 5-stud wheels. On a 7" wheel zero offset is about the right fit for a 240Z/260Z/280ZX, offset being the position of the inner mounting face relative to the imaginary centre line of a sectioned wheel. Most Wolfrace are a fraction off zero - this information will be cast on the rim of the wheel (hence previous comment to see if this varies and also to identify which "generation" of Wolfrace you have. My guess is that there are pre-GKN, GKN and post-GKN variants. The anally retentive should step forward and identify themselves). Another way of assessing wheel suitability for an application would be "back-spacing" - easier to understand, it is the distance from a straight-edge laid across the rear rim to the inner mounting face, e.g on a 7" wheel with zero offset, you would expect this to be 3.5" + the thickness of the rim bead. The wheel width and wheel diameter quoted relate to the tyre mounting face, not to the overall dimensions of the wheel rim lips. You may see the letter "J" associated with wheel sizes - the "J" refers to the profile of the wheel lip, e.g. 7J x 14.

Status I do love your wheels, you know that. And I just might have a pop at them. But I have this set of newly-refurbed but tyre-less 14x7 Wolfies which came free with my car. I will have to buy myself one tyre and see what they look like on. If I dont like what I see then I will sell them and come knocking on your door.

I also saw a set of 15x7 Konig Rewinds (bit like Minilites) on American E-Bay. they were brand new and went for $550. Now that was one nice set of wheels..

Have a peek..
