1975 Nissan Fairlady Z badges

Hey all

I'm really struggling at the moment, still in the planning stages of the restoration of the car (S30-141102), since we've established the car is actually a Nissan Fairlady Z rather than 260Z - would anyone know what badges would have been on the bonnet and boot lid?

Trying to find out and cant find anything anywhere, completely stumped.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul

Yes. I have a '75 Fairlady Z 2+2 and if you have a look at the photos in my album on this site, you should see pictures of all the badges you will need. The only one missing is the one on the bonnet which I haven't put back on following the respray but it is round with a Z on it like any other S30 Z bonnet badge. Getting hold of them is a different matter though!!!

Cheers

Paul

Scrap that!! Just realised that all my piccies in my gallery have disappeared. I have seen a previous post about the same problem but can't find it so 'm not sure why this has happened.

I will try to re-install them later when I get home from work so watch this space.

These on the front wings and the rear hatch or spoiler if fitted:

As for the bonnet, the correct emblem looks at first glance like the "Z" emblem for the 280ZX, but is thicker and designed for the contour of the S30 bonnet. It attaches, as per the "Datsun" bonnet badge on 240 and 260Zs, with two pins.

This Japanese auction listing has a rough one, for reference (ignore the 2+2 quarter emblems):

Availability: the "Fairlady Z" wing and rear emblems are now getting difficult. They used to be easily available (on eBay often from the US) but have gone NLA I think. Your best bet is buying from Yahoo Auctions Japan via a service like Buyee. Here are some:

The bonnet badge - very difficult to get. Again, use the Japanese auctions. You will be very, very lucky to find one from any other source. Two that I have acquired before were both from Japan. People even in Japan often use an S130 / 280ZX badge and bodge the mounting (with emblem tape) to make it work.

Prices - expensive. About 45-50 quid for the "Fairlady Z" ones each. Bonnet = £££. Worth it IMO for correctness. But be prepared (especially the bonnet badge).

Given you have a Fairlady Z, you need to get acquainted (at least) with Yahoo Auctions Japan (via Buyee, or bidjdm.com). Some detail parts you will have trouble sourcing outside of Japan.

PM me if you have any other questions. Albrecht (Alan) is also the real expert here on JDM cars so he is someone to tap for info.

If it was equipped with the NAPS anti pollution system it would have had the full 'NAPS' badging on the tailgate.

Make sure you understand that some of the badging for the 2/2 models differed from the 2-seater models.

The bonnet emblem is specific to the Japanese market S30-series (and S31-series) cars, being a letter 'Z' rather than the 'Datsun' script of the Export models. It may look like the S130-series 'Z' bonnet emblem, but it's nothing like it. Beware of ebay sellers telling you it's the same, as it's not.

All the part numbers are in the factory parts list I sent to you.

Ooh - just noticed the black-bumper rubber on that JDM Fairlady Z....I thought that there were all chrome and so w/out rubbers ?

'Deluxe' models had rubber bumper trim. 'Standard' models had plain chrome bumpers with no trim and no trim holes.

Thank you thank you thank you for your input as ever, absolutely will help, will do some more hunting over the weekend.

Does anyone know with "Buyee", if every auction will deliver to the UK, or is it like eBay where some auctions you might even have to collect - I'm not about to fly to Japan to pick up some badges...

Thanks
Paul

Buyer is an intermediary service. International buyers are not allowed on Yahoo Auctions Japan. In reality, all listings are Japan only. So services like Buyee, BidJDM.com, Rinkya, and others, operate a proxy bidding service. You bid as per normal like eBay, but the seller is actually receiving bids from Buyee or whoever in Japan. When you win the auction, the seller deals directly with Buyee; you pay Buyee the winning price, plus their fees plus the shipping price from the seller to Buyee's warehouse in Japan. Buyee pays the seller. Buyee then ship on to you when they receive the item at their warehouse.

Quick answer - the only things you are barred from buying on Yahoo Auctions Japan via Buyee are those things that they prohibit in their terms and conditions. IMO, although Buyee is convenient for searching, they restrict too many car parts to be the go-to option (certainly engine bits). BidJDM would be my first choice as they are explicitly car oriented, being the sister service of RHDJapan.com, which is an excellent site for new parts (my Fujitsubo twin pipe exhaust was bought from them).

So bid away. Getting the emblems will be easy via Buyee or BidJDM.
