0h dear there all at it

I mean really though, this is the Z owners club. Do any of really care about the emissions of VW's? I mean, if it means Mr X has to pay lower car tax each year I'm all for it. If consumers should be annoyed about anything its the absurdly unobtainable MPG figures they all publish about their cars.

Nissan included...As highlighted by Rob and his 370z. What was the quoted mpg of the s30 when launched\tested and how does that compare to actual? ..not that we have many stock s30's to go by..

Agreed. What I mean is that as consumers, this emissions test program cheat from VW shouldn't make a blind bit of difference to us. Unless of course you're some hardcore eco-mentalist, who wouldn't be driving one anyway. Yes it may have been dishonest and unethical but I really can't see who the victims are. Can anyone think of the victims? Happy to be put right of course.

I agree with that Matt for the short term. But I accept that climate change is real. In 50 yrs time we'll all be saying 'hardcore eco-mentalists, why didn't you do something to protect us from ourselves?'

It depends what the ultimate reaction of this is - if 'diesel' comes out as this devil fuel, most of us diesel owners will probably be affected negatively when we come to sell (probably already been affected).

Emissions tests may be altered in the EU to a similar level of the US (talks already going on about it) and we might see a change in tax rates - I pay 0 tax on my Audi A1 1.6TDI at the moment. On the other side, it might positively effect petrol owners like Rob mentioned above.

I'd be very surprised if VAG are the only ones up to this trick though.. Just waiting for rest of them to surface now lol

At this stage, I doff my hat to them for their ingenuity. I don't agree with what they did but it was clever. I mentioned before the Toyota Turbo cheat from the WRC in the 90's. Really clever stuff but it's still cheating. Lol

The only way it is cheating is because it got found out
remember talking to John Morton in the States and asked him "Did they cheat with stuff on car?"
He looked at me winked and Replied "No, nobody found anything wrong so we did not cheat"

Well it seems that cheating has been going on. But what is the real impact? I personally haven't a clue! I gather (but don't properly know) that farting cattle represent the demise of the planet. We are all persuaded and influenced by organisation's and individuals and base our opinions on what is probably total nonsense.

I recall literally choking on petrol car exhaust fumes during the early 1970's in town. Oddly I have no problem at all nowadays. Don't take notice of all that you are fed!!

I think the problem has been with the focus on CO2 targets being too narrow. Diesel generally produces less CO2/MPG vs a petrol engine. So loads of people bought a diesel thinking it would reduce their carbon footprint and would be cheaper to run, fine...

Everyone forgot about all the other particulates and **** that Diesels pump out far in excess of petrol engines... except VW, that'll be why they have tried to hide it, and I'm sure, while they were at it, they made sure the CO2 looked as low or lower than possible in the real world.

I doubt VW are the only ones at it, but its all going to come out in the wash.
