240Z on ebay

Plus the inevitable insurance restrictions and cost thereof for high value cars/assets, leading to less and less cars being driven on the public roads because owners are too scared to use them/leave them parked somewhere!

I have no insurance restrictions on mine, no fear of using public roads or track and I'd be more scared to leave a half-the-value Porsche parked up somewhere than the Z and probably even an MGBGT is likely to get nicked and broken down for parts than a Z.....they're rarer and we are a small world, especially now with FB and other social media - the word gets around quickly....have no fear - enjoy !

You're projecting certain peoples' reaction to a high value (and not the general Z population) but bear in mind that it's all relative - ALL classic car values are rising.

The speculators will come and go and it's a lot easier today to avoid them than was the case before internet and they WERE being imported by professionals even then....perhaps before a lot of people on this forum had their driving licence, let alone the thought to own a Z.

The (not MZR but Rahails' personal car) ZG is a personal import and not relevant to this conversation.

Erm, MZR isn't part of this conversation, well it wasn't. So my reply was part of this.

Speculators are everywhere now, its harder to avoid them! Whats your obsession with high prices driven by?
In my case, the first Z pre-dated the kids so easy to get away with! The second because I managed to save enough of a slush fund for a project car (and had been buying parts for years before actually having the car itself) and the idea of family outings with two Zs in convoy with a kid in each (my kids are only 6 and 9)! Maybe in the end, one of the two will make way for something like a C10 Skyline, although without giving my career trajectory a boot up the arse (and I don't particularly want to slide back into all that corporate climbing bullshit - which I f##king hate tbh), their prices - even as projects - may prove my undoing!

You've loads of great points.

The UK is in Europe, always has been. We have just left the EU though ;)

Err, the UK has always tried to ensure a balance of power in Europe whilst remaining on the fringe until 1973. And until this January it's only merely dangled its' toes in the water to make ripples - never, ever 'in' Europe.

So, since it is in the subject now courtesy of your good self, I would suggest that MZR is the MAJOR speculator in Zs and if they're selling, they appear to be right - all the best to them.....their prices MUST be having some form of knock-on effect on the plebs and their cars. :)

I have no 'obsession' with higher prices*, yes - I wish I could buy myself several and specifically a ready to go ZG racer for example but I can't afford it - tough on me, I'll live with what I do have and can afford.

*I merely accept that they are higher, will continue to rise and don't complain with some (imho) limp excuse that the 'poor young' can't afford them anymore.....I wanted a Miura and nobody helped me. The best I have done is to construct a modest collection of the best books around and when I see one for real - I can just sit and look at it for hours whilst secretly praying for the owner to turn up and start the beast. So, I can't afford one - but I have a 240Z** and despite more of them having been built, they're still as rare as rocking-horse poo. On the road, I must see a couple of Porsches a day and I'm in the sticks, not a 'money-region'. I take the Z out and people stop and stare.

**Elitism was mentioned - that also is here with snidy comments on 'whales' and 'other models' plus converted imports and plain, old LHD models.....there exists a furtive hierarchy already !

How will you decide which one to get rid of? Which is your favourite, the 6yr old or the 9 yr old? ;)

Nope, the UK has always been part of Europe. You're possibly confusing the geographical Europe - of which the UK is and always has been a part - with the 'political' European Union (EC, EEC, Common Market or whatever else it has been called) which the UK has just left. ;)

No, I'm not confused : you're trying to convince me that the UK is on the continent of Europe but have you measured the distance between Cornwall the USA recently ? You're getting closer and all thanks to your Ersatz Churchill.

Technically, the UK was part of the european landmass, however there was a brexit vote about 8500 years ago and we decided to leave by removing doggerland. we're still joined by that landmass.

you just have to look.

We kept hard cheese. win/win

I didn't say you were confused. I said you were possibly confusing Europe with the EU. The UK is part of Europe, as is Russia and Ukraine amongst others not in the EU (Norway, Switzerland, former Yugoslavia etc). The EU is a political bloc, Europe is a geographical place.

a bit like hs30 and hls30.

This thread has run it's course.

And yet there is no fight, no ill-feeling - where's the harm ?

Getting back on topic....(and not mentionning whether ones' 370Z will increase in value : here's your answer https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2020-nissan-370z/)....is £23k a suitable base price for an original RHD 240Z compared to importing a clean LHD and converting it properly whilst leaving the HLS30 prefix chassis code ?

Which will be worth more when finished if exactly the same ?

Will 'the market' decide upon any difference in value ?

It's a hackneyed phrase but at the end of the day any item will find it's true value on the day it is sold (what someone is willing to pay). The previous day, or the next, that value may differ. What counts is what it sells for.

There has and will always be a preference towards RHD. Its our base setting

Converted RHD will never achieve same values as factory RHD...like for like ( all IMHO)

I beg your pardon, England AND Wales.....but not London.

Preet - how many of MZRs' 'transformed in the UK' cars are LHD and what are they worth ?

Maybe handed only applies to the finish level and spec of a car ?

And despite this : https://journal.classiccars.com/202...-waiting-for-consistent-concours-recognition/

our cars still continue to rise, not only in 'price' but 'value' also. Now : define 'value' ;)

We've already opened the door here to the concours d'elegance !:p
