its finally happened........... 240z (Moderated)

Sadly not that close, the bodyshop had to put mine to the back of the queue as they had some MGs and Escorts to finish and then came the festive period.

Work has recently started again, so happy days :)

I just read through this thread as well. It looks like I need to start stuffing the backs of my Z cars going to the UK with rust free parts, it's like gold to you guys. Next time I see a rust free shell in California for $500 dollars, I have to stop laughing and buy the dam thing just to send it over. My respect to you all for the amount of work you do to bring these cars back from the tin worm. Looking forward to more progress pics as well. Great job.

Door repairs is a common issue on UK cars and I'd be surprised if many had survived the 40+ years without attention. There have been a few imported rust free doors on ebay for between £400 and £500 which looks like the current going rate. IMO its a better option than trying to get one repaired.

Just waiting on some inner rear arches from Mike and then bodywork is done :) so it will then be paint and yes the colour choice has changed, but I will leave that for the photos to do the talking.

Whats the list of things to replace as we start with the refit and where is best to get the parts?

So far, my list comprises of:-

-new wiring loom
-new suspension (where and what?)
-new rubbers and bushings (where?)
-refurb brake components
-check diff and gearbox while its all out
-door and glass rubbers (where?)
-new wheels (planning on going with something like the Rotas, as its simple to find replacements if need be, but will need to read up on sizes as I will be running the arch flares)

Now I get to go shopping ;)

Are these sizes correct (240z with arch flares, from Mike, so assume ZG)?

Fronts 16X9 -13 offset, 4X114.3
Rear 16X9.5 -19 offset, 4X114.3

Front tyres 225/50ZR-16
Rear tyres 245/50ZR-16

Planning on a bit of shopping from Japan? Those are Watanabe R-Type sizes... ;)

More commonly the fronts are 8.5 ET-6, not the 9 ET-13. Look at datsun dave's thread in the hybrid section. That is what his car is running.

Skiddell (hope he doesn't mind me mentioning this) has just gone 16x8.5 ET-6 all round with ZG arches.

15s are also an option, and common in Japan, as opposed to 16.

Worth noting with the 9.5 -19 rears you'll need to be careful on tyre size, or, like datsun dave, you'll need to run the oversized flares (e.g. from Marugen Shoukai) to accommodate them. Dave had to do that due to running 255/50s on the back.

Thanks for the info, especially since nothing comes close in this country (to my suggested sizes)

Will have a look at thread, thanks.... just some much info out there, its difficult to find the right answer

Just the ZG flares and mostly road use for me.... if it goes on track, it will be for fun and not that competitive

You could run the 9 ET-13s on the back as an alternative to 9.5s as well. I guess that would be accommodated under standard rear ZG arches a little bit more effectively.

Worth noting that in terms of budget options, if you were to run the Rota RKR Watanabe lookalikes in their off-the-shelf sizes of 15x9 ET0 up front and 15x9 ET-15 rear, it would give pretty much the same external dish appearance as the 8.5 ET-6 front, 9 ET-13 rear combo (just with less inside clearance up front).

I'd go for the real Wats though in 16. They look amazing.

I bet they would :) considering the state of the roads and the time frame to replace a wheel if need be, I dont like the real Wats.

Im just struggling to find the -ET sizes.....

The -15 RKRs appear to only be available from the US unfortunately. See them on eBay. The distribution for Rotas in the UK is quite limited IMO catering to the 80s/90s car crowd more effectively in offset terms.

You could always get Compomotive MLs though. Made in the UK and they will do any offset for you within a preset range. 15x8 can be had from ET-12 to ET0. 15x9 from ET-24 to ET-0.

MLs are what I have on my car sprayed grey to look more like Wats!

Or there's the Atara Racing wheels?

I see.... so that blows the idea of having easily accessible wheels out the water on those Rotas.

The Comp MLs look like a nice easy option  Will have a chat with them..... may have to order 2 sets from them 1x for the 240z and 1x for Escort

I like the look of the Atara wheels, but struggling to find reviews on them.

I have 10x15 all round on mine.....will have to check ET

235/50 tyres but I really want a road tyre but impossible in this size
