I Think everyones being a bit hard on the 2+2s virtues because in the past no body has been successful in campaigning them no reason in this day of Hi performance mods you cant get a 2+2 to hussle !!! and be competative. As with Robs 240 hes modified the gearing and suspension fibreglass tailgate weight saving etc and built a great Track day car !.
I have a set of Fibre glass wings you can have, and if you strip the original brakes down, get a wilwood caliper conversion, best weight saving is change the glass to perspex !! rear seats out, bumpers etc, but talk to Rob about the gearing and diff as the +2 is too long legged for circuit work, Good luck be great to see it run.
Weight saving running a 2 seater yes, but remember Volvo ran their estate instead of their saloon in the UK touring car series in, what the 90's. Estate was heavier, but it handled better.
Well guys,
I have decided that I am going to go through with it
Good on you, go give em hell.... In the best possible Z club spirt, if you need help feel free to shout!!!!!!
One point to mention....the majority of 240/260 over here are carrying 50 kilo's of underseal and extra steel plates splattered with pigeon shit so by the time you've taken out the rear seats etc ya wont be a million miles away.......lol
The difference in basic weight still remains. the 2+2 is around 10% heavier.
And Nothing will alter that. Whatever you do to it.
If I was starting with a new car I'd contact Dave Jarman to see what he would advise re 260 suspension. Tell him you ARE going to use the 2+2 - otherwise he'll try and put you off. Dave may have some bits to sell you and his advice (as long as you support him) will be invaluable.
I think this is going to surprise a few people
And just a bit 'flexible' in the corners !It may be a very rusty example making it a light weight limo.

If it flexes enough we could call it bendy bus.
Pete you may be able to help out with parts supply - I know he needs a new gbox and I'm sure that 2+2 diff will be the wrong ratio etc.
Gearbox - if you can get away with an S13/14 (SX200) conversion get a kit off PMac - not sure what prop you need on the 2+2. If not you need a late 280ZX box (hard to find)
your budget also determines your spec and since you've gone for a 260Z because that's what you've got, I assume that the budget is somewhat limited which will seriously impair your competivity.
It won't stop you having fun of course and all power to you for going ahead - BUT respect us for having stated our views honestly and in your best racing interests - best of luck to you !
a 3.9 is too low - you want to be doing at least a 4.1.
