At the end of the day, he's gonna be the bad-ass driving it!

Yep, but we're gonna be the poor sods who see it from the outside !;) I'd keep the sunroof but not gold wheels...........please. Shiny silver ones to set off the roof, window, door trims and bumpers.

Normally I'd agree on the gold wheels front but on a black car with maybe black or chrome split rims it would look superb (then again, it could look poop...). I know it's not the same thing as it's 15 odd years difference but MattDaKav's black Z with gold telephone dials looks awesome. Let's see how it looks when he's done it. At the end of the day, he's gonna be the bad-ass driving it!

Thinking on Growler has enkies with gold centres & approx 13 years ago they looked the nuts I remember a guy from a car mag having an orgasm about them , possibly the centres may look better in black these days

call me a chicken but i would ,it would have to be prepared to a very high standard and a black car is a pain to keep clean,if it was me i would paint it orange again,
shame really as black is the best colour to paint

i have not seen the pictures of the car as my computer is slow due to using a dongle and not able to pick up 3g so it cannot cope with all the pictures listed in this thread

I wouldn't call u chicken Mike, wise maybe ,it was u that told me not many car body shops enjoy full repaints , a wing and a door is fine, never did thank u for the extra bits u sent, so here it is thanks mate

Alex do u like full repaints, i dont, but there again im not a car painter
as u can see in the makeshift booth in a dusty 70 year old romny building whats your time scale for the project Z ?

its probably being influenced by the VW scene as to the colours i have decided on. i will see how they look with some photoshopping! the webasto is going it was sealed in with neopryne glue. going to re skin the roof. i recon a year to get everything sorted would be a realistic time frame as its bring done on my own time.

also ive never known a bodyshop moan or complain about doing a full respray. personally on my cars i would prefer to take it all to bare metal. normal prep would not in some cases bring rust or other imperfections to your attention. this is deffo going to be a bare metal resto. removing all underseal and sound deadening.

mechanics ther will be the usual mods. tripple webers port matched manifold. ported n gas flowed head and the usual leightening and ballencing.

any sugestions are welcome!

If you can send me over a pick of the wheels from side on that you're having (or post them up on here), I'm gonna be building a "Paint Your Car" section where you can look at each Z model with different colours and finishes. If you've got a year to wait then that should give me enough time...

Why does everyone want to modernise a design that originated (but perfected by seventies engineering) in the sixties ?

agree to disagree on this one sean. i love those wheels. but i believe they don't come less than 17" ( might be wrong). very small car the 240, 17" would look massive.
work wheels. what we looking at? 2k?

i duno yet would like to see em next to the car first. if not it would have to be equip 03s or some type of BBS 3 piece.

Bear in mind that if you do go for 17" wheels, the ride is going to be fairly harsh as you will have to fit fairly low profile tyres.

It's a great base for a project Alex and nice to start with a clean sheet of paper so to speak.

because ther not purist? and if its thers then they surely can do what they want?

Purist ? You don't know what you're talking about - I'm certainly not one :D !

Of course anyone can do what they like with their car....my point is that it is a current trend, mode, fashion - call it what you will and I wonder what owners will do in 5-10 years time - keep 'em like that or revert to 'classic look' ?

I'm not scared to run the 18" Kosei Seneca J-GT's that I have on my 260.
Sits on 225/40 Bridgestone S02's. Could do with power steering mind you!

I run 17's on mine without any problems, but as mentioned the steering is a bit on the heavy side.

I don't have a problem with that - I asked "Why does everyone want to modernise a design that originated (but perfected by seventies engineering) in the sixties ?"

I expressed an opinion "my point is that it is a current trend, mode, fashion - call it what you will"

then I asked a question " I wonder what owners will do in 5-10 years time - keep 'em like that or revert to 'classic look' ?"

Where's the problem - where's the high-horse stuff ?

Chill out and let's discuss - it'a a forum.

An old car should have slots.

Sorry to disagree Mr Ex each to their own guess, slots went out of fashion in the 80's, unlike the z cars they where almost std fitment on, so now people are fitting wheels that really suit the car that where not available back then, eg minilites, them want to be minilite things, don't know if I spelt that right , enkies, Image, rota's, compomotive etc etc. Dia of the wheels all depends on how the rest of the car has been done 17" look too large on some cars but on others the look great.
