I would think I have been around longer than you as I went to all the meetings in the 80s which all seemed to be below watford gap and I don't remember seeing you at any of them.

and as for being a long continual member I had a break during the late 80s early 90s and I didn't join the club until '82

Still not sure what your point is about being a longer member although it would appear that we've both paid Club dues for about the same total time period albeit if yours is in two lots.

Old timers I know that are still around are Mike Feeney and Kevin Irons and my red 260 2/2 apears in James Morris's book Super profile.
And again, your point is ?
Mine was that Z ownership has advanced since THAT book, knowledge too AND club membership, and I don't mean qty of membership. Look at the worldwide Z fraternity, accessible now with the Net !

As for asking what I have done for the club if it was'nt for us members who pay our subs every year there wouldn't be a club

Ooh, yawn - how many times have I heard that one ?

I can't resist it " when I was Chairman (unfortunately for us, during your 'off-period', I would have preferred 200 paying members less (to make it 500) but a 20% better turnout" !

Fee paying, stay at home members do nothing for any club. Eventually, most of them sell up and move on and there is no-one to replace them !

you could be right, but those double overhead cams make it one seriously tall engine in comparison to the chevy, hell I'd say the 7 litre LS7 is smaller?

Now call me the chevy bore but in a toss up I'd take the smaller 505 hp 470 ft-lb engine over that strange 340 hp nissan item!

Clives car

No  NO:eek: NO  NO  NO..... Do Not cut up clives car..... ever. There are cars out there that you want and suit your purpose. Like it or not Clives car is a Zclub legend front cover 1987 z mag if memory serves.

The problem is no-one likes the '80s look of the Standish legend any more. If the car were stock it would be sold by now! They have to look beyond the kit to see the excellent structure of the car and visualise a revised image of their own. Unfortunately, planning to do that work on top of the base price will make it an expensive prospect.

I see the car with G-nose and "bird-bath" rear spoiler removed, MSA Type 3 front air dam, arches remain but reshaped to accomodate a full length sill extension, lose the rear window louvre, C/F hair-piece to lose the glass sunroof and either a real V8 or modern injected L-series to replace the TVR-Rover. Paint and trim as appropriate. If it helps the historical perspective, Clive was planning to convert back to L-series before the rest of his life took over.

The car is still for sale to interested parties - the bottom line is currently £6000 returned to the road, MOT'd. However, still trapped in the back of my garage by a Lotus!

Ok mike, so I can agree with a couple of things such as the rear louvre and in retrospect the XR3i mirrors and rear bumper should be scraped (but the G nose is still nice) bigger wheels a must. However I don't think that constitutes "cutting it up" you are still suggesting modifications to body work so not back to standard then either!! I have to say also I like both L series and v8's but must admit for me it would be chevy not rover (heathan I know) if a v8 was the choice. I suppose it's all about what you want really. But then again why not have one of each and get a 350z while your out there!!

Nothing else surely ?

You like the rear spoiler?

I suggest leaving the arches as removing them would mean major disruption on what is basically a very clean body - they have been properly installed and show no signs of cracking.

I think the rear spoiler is part of the 'look' of the car and should be kept, like the 'finned' bonnet (that I wouldn't have done). I might also be temppted to change the wheels now for something more 'racy' and modern !

Is the MK3 Supra with the 7MGTE avaliable over there? Here in the states that motor is pretty plentiful, and cheep for a whole car due to the bad head gasket rap. Really the problem is the Head bolt torque specification 52 ft/lbs. "Barely tight" in my opinion. Solution = ARP head studs and MHG, this combo is good for over 500 RWHP, provided a few other things are modded properly.

Its 3 liters, its DOHC, its turbocharged, its intercooled, its distributor-less, it has a wontedfull spark map and excellent drivability, the stock toyota 5 speed has been known to handle 700 RWHP, the stock clutch is good for over 550 RWHP and it has a very straight 6 sound, most people cant tell I have modified mine, until I trounce them. Also Its different.
