Well it certainly seems that Mr. Clarkson is the Marmite of the motoring jounalistic world! ::eek:

I take very large pinches of salt when it comes to anyone's 'personal' opinion when reviewing anything, being it what toaster I should buy or film I should watch. So what he (or anyone else I've never met) thinks about any car, for me, is irrelevant.

So far. I'm finding the show a bit samey. Same staged races, same jokes, same lack of news in the news section, same 55 minutes of Mr. Clarkson proving to eveyone that he owns a massive book of ironic similes.

But I do love being entertained, so I have to say Top Gear is brilliant. I love it! :D

And I luuurve Marmite too. :p

You are all the perfect audience - the one that laughs when the to*ser on the stage is insulting you.....smug in the knowledge that you've paid his wages for the evening !

I think the problem is that nobody cares too much - everyone is so busy just making it through eacj month ! A good laugh irrespective if it's against the car that YOU own and one feels better !

Sad......but he's the one laughing !

Oh, I don't know Sean. I think it's clear that everyone here thinks the guy's a to$$er, whether we like the program or not. I reckon if you told him that he's a to$$er, he'd probably agree with you anyway.

He's even said that any 'cool' car becomes 'uncool' if he buys one, so maybe we should be thankful he dislikes Zed's, that way our cars stay cool! :D

Hi,
I think Clarkson is now a bit too predictable and his side kick Hammond should return to provincial hospital radio from where he sprouted!
The real star of the Show is James May aka Captain Slow!...I enjoyed his wine tasting tour of France with Oz Clark, where they toured around france in his Jaguar XJS and also the USA in a Winnebago.
I think that if he was allowed to, he would enjoy the delights of motoring in a 280ZX 2+2 Targa!:D

The James May and Oz on wine was great but then I hope Sean didn't see it as we don't want to get him started on wine as well:D:D

I thought is was very telling when he was interviewing the two news readers and one of them said that if Clarkson read the news no one would believe him!
So even fellow media people know he doesn't tell the truth - but that is how he makes his money - he entertains, he loves to wind people up, if he was to read this he would be laughing his socks off!
at the end of the day if he winds you up that much you just don't watch!
I don't seriously think anyone takes his word as gospel and if do then he would be the first to say they were stupid

although i am a Z owner, i dont believe they are the be all and end all, other countries do make good cars aswell.

Does that mean "as well as" or "as good as" ? Coz anything the Gerries can make, the Japs can make, but cheaper.

But I don't care if people believe him or not and I'm sure, like any media personality, he'd accept all this as praise......any publicity is good publicity !! What I care about is that he continues to slag off Datsuns and people laugh along with him at Datsuns (Nissans too).

They made great cars in the '70s for the general public - just right for that fuel crisis and reliable and loaded with 'extras !

Just because they didn't have a history (in the UK and in Europe in general) didn't mean that they were naff - but fuzzy head likes to forget all that and we all go along with it 'cos apparently it's funny to laugh at 'handicapped' things ! But the Skyline GTRs were creaming the best elsewhere - imagine the British saloon car championship if someone had brought over one.......they didn't like it at Bathurst over 20 years later ! To compare them and worse - the R32s upwards with 120Ys and Sunnys that his father probably bought.

But that's it - he was teased at school 'cos his family ran Datsuns and how he had helped destroy Britains' car manufacturers whilst he dreamt of GT40s !:D

Ditto :

BMs and Mercedes don't have the reliability they did and cost a fortune to fix.

Other countries ?

The US ? They can't lay off people quick enough !
The UK ? All made under licence now and only the REALLY expensive ones are worth having and then I'm not sure about reliabilty......TVR ?
France ? Well, what can I say.......they're boring and 70+% diesel !
Italy ? Either they're diesel and small or they're powerful and expensive but are the expensive ones THAT good....running costs, reliability.....?

Japan : Lexus, Avensis, Landcruiser, Patrol, Micra, Infinity, 350Z, MX-5, RX-8, Celica, MR..............etc, etc......

And let's not compare Japanese cars with their competition back in the early '70s....

Hi,
Clarkson doesn't wind me up at all!...I couldn't care if he likes my car or not! ...I watch Top Gear despite of him not because of him, as I still like to see programmes about cars on tv and there's nothing else on at the moment.
I would like to have seen a decent review of the Nissan GTR as it interests me, but I should have known better!

I don't know why he still refers to Nissans as Datsuns, as surely a large percentage of the BBC 2 audience won't even know what he's talking about now!

On the other hand this is a Datsun/Nissan Z related forum, so why shouldn't we discuss and stand up for the marque which we like?...Next time a member of the public refers to your car as 'Jap Crap' at a show, due to what they've seen on the television, just cover your ears and pretend they don't exist!

Bang On Allan!

As for Top Gear, I am a fan of the show and have been for ever (despite the anti-datsun/nissan-ness of it). Jeremy is a bit of a nob but the fact he's unashamedly non-pc is great. It is starting to feel samey quite a bit now. Little Hammond has turned into a mini-clarkson (under direction, I'd of thought) but as mentioned earlier, James May is really entertaining. The wide angle shots and soundtrack of the driving sequences are always fab, and I defy anyone to say otherwise that SEEING THAT GT-R COME OUT OF THE TOKYO TUNNEL IN THE SEA RULED!

i suggest next sunday you watch the antiques roadshow instead to lower your heartrate!

It also seems you are far too biased aswell, in a japanese orientation.

I am biased, since 19 years ago and I had a Celica before that for 2 years ! My pulse is alway 110/70 - no stress here and I love James May - he's the funniest, most talented and spontaneous - I could spend a day with him and cars - that'd be a laugh.

The other two are too rehearsed and it's true, it's becoming predictable.

I don't know anyone else that slags off Datsuns. Everybody that sees my car loves it and im sure its the same for all the other Z owners on here.

So there you go - Clubsod fuzzy brush isn't even spouting popular bulls*it but the audience still laughs. I once participated several weeks in the audience of a Ruby Wax 'live' show which tokk frequently 3 hrs to make a hlaf hour with prompt boards to tell poeple when to laugh etc - I'm sure it's the same BUT the impression given to a few million viewers is that it's funny to take the pi*s outa Datsuns and I can NEVER agree to that - I would if they were crap but they aint !

I've been fighting the press and ar*eholes like him in the street since I started in a Z - my first stint was at Stowe school when we participated in a Healey celebration - and I upset a few clothe caps there I can tell you !

Everyone loves my 240Z (I don't mean to be big-headed - they love all Zs when they see them) and cross the road to look, sometimes discuss.

True....so which countries were you referring to ? And which cars ?

well, it depends what you look for in a car. you cant beat a anything from the VW stable for reliability, and the performance aspect of the S3 or the cupra cant be questioned.

italian cars, although have huge build quality issues, have a certain je ne sais qua.

Im saying that not everybody wants a car that does everything and can find what they are looking for on other continents other than asia.

VW ? Where have you been these past few years? VW's are well down the JDPower list, their cheaper stablemates (Skoda & Seat) beats the pants off 'em .
