Sad Samuri

Well thats strange. I owned the car from 1976/77 to 2001. I had an RS3100 Capri at the time & advertised it in Motoring News or Exchange & Mart as thats about all their was. A chap among others phoned & asked if i would be interested in a swap. He told me he had a Samuri. I jumped at the swap as i knew all about them with 9NRE(now Liams car) living up the hill, in the village. I met the chap, who i remember was from Farnham on the M6, maybe M1, at Corly Services. We did the swap & off home i drove. Im posting TWO pics of the car. First one, very shortly after purchase at home showing JPF127K on the reg plate, which may mean something to someone on zclub.net. Note....NO sunroof, standard factory 240z rear spoiler......to be continued

I put my plate 793CHR on the car & later fitted the tea tray spoiler, lift out sunroof, after the hottest Summer for 350 years in 1976, & even a towbar to take a little Fletcher to Abersoch. I had no handbooks, service books....nothing with the car & sold it with 70,000+ miles. Talk of History files are rubbish. I sold her to a Nissan Main Dealer in Solihull who said he would restore & leave in his showroom as a show car. Around 1990 i saw her advertised in Classic Car or similar & described as having stood for years as a show car....probably correct! Thats the last i heard until Liam aquired 9NRE & joined zclub. I had a peek on the site & saw "Sad Samuri"....i knew it was my old Car.

How did JPF127K become EOE644K. Well in those days if you placed a personal plate on a vehicle. In this case 793CHR. When you took your personal plate off, the car was issued with a fresh plate.....not put back to its first registration number as they do today.

I can tell everyone. I had no handbooks, service books, history file....nothing! The next pic will show that i put my plate 793CHR on the car, fitted a stupid tea tray spoiler, lift out sunroof, coz we had the hottest Summer for 350yrs in 1976 even a towbar for my little Fletcher that we towed to Abersoch. So talk of History file is utter rubbish! I sold her in 1981 to a Main Datsun or Nissan Dealer in Solihull to put in his showroom

I nearly brought EOE 644K many years ago.......let down at the 11 hour by an insurance company who wouldn't insure it due to my age

At the time it was being sold by a guy in Manchester who raced/restored Honda S800's on behalf of a friend of his, who I think he said ran a pub or restaurant

Am sure there is a way of contacting the DVLA to get info on cars but presumably you need the VIN to be accurate?

The samuri register website says EOE644K was formally BS6333.

Samuri Register

If it was also CHR - which has been on a rolls royce for a while - then that is more complicated ...

I thought the front spolier was very different too- but how many would have that rear spoiler....??

Regarding the front spoiler, when I nearly brought it I was told the spoiler had been cut down from its original depth as it had been catching on too many things in the road......

The rear spoiler is only fitted to the boot lid.... So is it possible that it is just this that has been switched??? Because the interior doesn't look 'white' either:confused::confused::confused:

Samuri's Samuri's I gave up on them many years ago because they are a mine field, I believe there are virtually no genuine examples out there, I know of several that are not what they are meant to be, so the best thing to do is buy a sound Z build it to your own spec & paint it in Sam colours atleast you know what you've got then.

The picture on the Samuri website has 2 images transposed, the car stated as being OML 10K shows pictures of EOE thats just input error and is being addressed.

And I'm not sure how you arrive at the conclusion that CHR being on the Rolls now makes it more complicated either, its just a cherished number transfer, I do thousands of 'em..

Do you want to expand on that Gwyn, along with the usual "....it's just chopped springs and a paint job..." stuff, that is just typical forum nonsense.

JK, I didn't read that into Gwyn's comment he's really talking about the lack of Samuri originality/provenance.

Anyway I know somebody who want's to buy the car that is the subject of this thread - how does he go about it?

This main agents were in Dorridge and called Mike Grimes which then became Toyota then Porsche

Ummm - did someone say something about pictures of YES 27L ? Yes please! Any pictures would be gratefully and wholeheartedly received! I can still go back to the DVLA so anything anyone has would be great............. pretty please? :)
Youre right. Thats definitly his name..."Mike Grimes." He bought the Car from me in 1981 to put in his Datsun/Nissan Main Dealership showroom. As i said before, it then appeared for sale in a glossy Classic mag around 1990, described as having undergone a complete refurb & stood in a showroom as a show car ever since. All i can say after that is that by doing a HPI check, the current Registered Keeper is showing as aquiring the Car in November 1990.....some 22 & a half years ago!

The rest of the info shows a VIN:- HS 3001567. 1st registered on 12/1/72.
Engine no:- L24059887

Rob, I think a few people have tried to buy it over the last couple of years, but, and this is just what I've been told, the man either wants too much money, or is not very receptive to offers. I suppose it depends how much someone is prepared to pay, the pictures from 2004 are pretty bad, it must be a whole lot worse 9 years on

As Jonathan says, that car must be a disaster now, considering what the 2004 photos show. Samuri or not, that shell is probably way past it.

Yes, exactly - don't worry I'm not interested in it.

Rob, so I take it the other person is no longer interested in it then. Far better and more worthwhile cars out there. Here'd of another 240 sat in garage the other day, unfortunately was unable to get any real details. Happened to be a chap in the hospital bed next to my Dad, unfortunately he was being discharged as I arrived to visit. The only details I got was that it was purple.

Oh well.
