RB 240z Conversion

Some more pictures from today found a small coolant leek under the car on the garage floor i looked for bloody hours trying to find it and was down to a jubile clip not done up tight right at the back of the engine under the inlet manifold.

That RB looks fantastic in there. Bravo Sir! Truely a masterpiece!

Haven't read the whole thread but it took myself 18 months to get an RB25 in and running in my 180sx so i can only assume this has been as much a labour of love/hate as mine was!

Looks magnificent Dave, I'm truly envious. It's cars like this that keeps me awake at night thinking "why don't I ...."

Keep going :)

Ok found the problem with the engine today turns out to be the ignition amp that sits on the coil pack cover dropping a cylinder when the engine is warm, a big thanks to Andy @ ACspeedtech who has been coming out to the car to sort it out he has been running and mapping Skyline for years so knows the engines backwards.

So will have to find a second hand working unit as Mr Nissan does not sell them any more.

Available from rhdjapan for £450! but at least its new as most secondhand skyline bits are old tat

Nissan OEM Ignitor

I would lend you my spare but I'm leaving for Germany tomorrow at 5am.

Thanks for the offer Darren have found a brand new unit for a lot less picking it up tomorrow at Oulton Park.

Picked up a NEW one yesterday seller had said that it was unused (not sure as had some fitting marks) and that does not work feel like pushing the car into the garage and opening it back up next year just had a belly full with it fighting me all the way to finish it off.

I should have just opened the window on the way home and chucked £220 out.

Well tomorrow's another day.

I know it must be sooooo frustratings Dave, but you just have to push on. Everyone of us have issues with a hybrid. Youwould have been extremely lucky if didn't. I've gone round and round in circle with diff problems and I'm still not happy with what I've got but the joy of being out in the car more than makes up for it.

Once your out and about in it, these problem will all be a distant memory and you'll be grinning from ear to ear.

Dave, surely you have some 'come-back' on the part you bought!

You have done a fantastic job on the car and I can fully understand your frustration. Leave it alone for a while, the weather's **** anyway! Don't work on the car when you are feeling 'down'.

Get satisfaction from what you have done not what doesn't work yet!

Lots of us on here admire your achievement, believe me.

When I'm 'up against it' (now now ) I think of Ernest Shackleton's determination - it always works.

Dave been burnt buying skyline stuff before myself hence why unless desperate I always buy from outside UK or new. If you need my ignitor as a loan the offer still stands I will be back in the UK on Friday night so could post Saturday (hoping I can find it in the pigsty of a garage!)

P.S I think the Z32 ignitor may be easier to come by and can be fitted to an RB. I think you just have to repin the plug as its wired differently so this could be an option.

Its always the same with big car projects, I had a fair amount of setbacks and extra expenses with my EF project and I know I can expect plenty with my 260Z project.

Don't loose heart yet, your car is great and once you finally get it all sorted all the hard work will be worth it when you drive it.

MJP to the rescue (again) Mike has sourced me a new Z32 Mark 2 ignitor and wiring harness and mounting bracket this is going to be mounted on the bulk head away from the heat just need to get the Autosparky to fit it into the RB loom just downloaded a 26 page installation guide on how to do it.

The Ser 2 upgraded PTU(ignitor) is indeed easy to get hold of both new and in known working s/h condition.
It is also significantly cheaper..

While i am waiting for some new parts to arrive i was never happy with the rear turbo air intake pipe work and was using most of the original RB26 set up, but one of the bends in the plastic was to tight inside my engine bay and would have no flowed the air very well.

So have had the chaps that do my metal work make me a new alloy air intake pipe, using parts of the original set up and some new bits.

Mate, I am new to the Z world, but Ive had some fairly handy stuff in the past, I dont care what you drive, what youre in to or how much money you have to spend on toys. Anyone that knows even the smallest amount about cars can not fail but to be totally impressed with what youve done, the tenacity, drive and attention to detail is unreal.
Fair play... Effort

Any more updates to this?

Don't suppose you still have that dolly that you used on page 58, that would be very handy to me during the next lot of work I'll be doing. :)
