Le Mans Classic July 2008

Sean, tomorrow we need to just get 'pitched' and sheltered and everyone look afer themselves. We can have a beer together but no need for a banquet surely.

No problems, I'm having a BBQ and don't want you guys to think that you've missed out or not been informed. Come to the party - bring a steak !

Paul - I thought that you were bringing a 2+2 - Grolls !

For those that didnt go, ya missed a great weekend, loads of noise, straight6, straight 8,V8,v12 etc... Sean well done for sorting this weekend out, your a diamond!!!!:D

Some wicked racing from the early Buggati's with 4" multiply tyres and sliding the back end in on a pricless at car to the GT40's...OMG:eek:..... what gave me a buzz was seeing a RS3.1 Capri with the ass out, full throttle and staying with the big boys in GT40's and ex race lola and GT3's with no problems....:D Great to see the 240 although he didnt do that well... perhaps next time!!!!

It was great to meet you all and share a beer or two.........for all those that didnt go, pull ya finger out for the next one.....

ps, status car is a slug !!!!!!!!!! lol.

I'm gonna do a write up (of course) and group the photos and some great video coverage of the track laps but this is a thankyou to ALL of you who came and made this event such a success for everyone ! The atmosphere was tremendous, everyone mucking in - so easy going !

I love you all !

ps I confirm that Status drives like a wuss and deserves to have his Z removed ! I think it's his lack of eyesight and he's too proud to wear glasses in front of us !

yea, tho I was in the valley du Mans, yet did I fear no evil 'cos I drove the meanest effing Z on the track..... what a laugh - 143mph (admittedly on the speedo) - 6300 in fifth, shift light coming on here and there (7300 revs).......all of the Zs made a good show - contempory cars look archaic in the corners !

Thanks Sylv1 !

Notable moments (off-track) were the Friday breakfast fireside chat about the 'ups and downs' of suppositorys as workable medicine against head-aches........elk-hunting.......and the Sunday spectacle of the lost art of tent folding : we all lined up and watched the neighbours (see photo) ! I cried and my ribs ached !:D

Absolutely.

A bloody fantastic weekend and a big  to Sean for sorting it all out - it was nice to see you (and the car).

PS - It turned out that Duncan broke his right foot :D

I saw him hobbling around when I finally introduced him to Cedric (a another Celica owner) - christ, give him our best - what a smashing bloke !

And Rob.....what DID we talk about until 3 in the morning ?

Next time with YOUR car ?

Looks like it was a fabulous weekend for all.

Although I wasn't there with you, 'muchos kudos' to you Sean for organising it and all the help and advise offered to everyone to make it a success.

I'd certainly love to do something like that sometime. One of my favourite parts of an event is the driving there and back (meeting lots of nice people too, of course :p), but I just wish I had the cofidence in the car to do such a long journey without something major breaking! (That's a cr*p excuse, isn't it?)

The in-car footage of the curcuit is brilliant. I take it it was a parade, but was there any speed restrictions or anything? Clearly you were going hell for leather, but most of the other drivers seemed to be on a 'Sunday' cruise! Not a critisism of them though, there were some nice machines out, but you must have been concerned one of them might do something unexpected in front of you? It made for great footage though!

Dalos - you drive a Z....other people break down - not us !

Sure, it was a parade, no speed restriction but behind a safety car who sped up just after Arnage on the first lap. From there 'til the end we were flat out except for the odd bunching up in the Porsche curves and Ford chicane and the odd wallys who drove two abreast and didn't look in the rear mirrors !

At the end of the video going up the grandstand straight, you just about see the safety car - we caught 'em all up and only a convertible Porsche RSR thingy gets us although we had fun from Mulsanne 'til the Esses !

Of course there was fear of wallys wandering across the track or sudden breaking down to 40 for a sweeping bend one can take at over 100......but that also was fun !

The level of concentration to avoid the nearby cars, look at breaking points and future gaps, look at future bunching and an eye on the badguy Porsche and the green demon Z on my tails........I refused the karting offer after lunch - it seemed tame.

I will do. Shame I missed Cedric the following day, I'll try get all the info together on an email for him. I'll copy you in, in case some of it needs translating.

And Rob.....what DID we talk about until 3 in the morning ?

Well I'm sure it was something political but I was far too wankered to join in - think I nodded off at one point

Next time with YOUR car ?
For sure (hey Dave):D

Just a quick reply as I'm off out on my Birthday.

This genuinely was my best Z Club event EVER.

The laps were frustrating but they were always only going to be a great way to see the full circuit, and what a circuit it is!

Anyway I managed to park at the side of the Mulsanne Straight and get myself a bit of space so from then on it was ok. Got a true 129mph (Sat Nav reading) at one point.

The weather was brilliant (nothing like the dreadful forecast) and the whole experience was a 'blast'.

We had a laugh Karting too and Lee (my son) was first across the line after passing DJ with what could be described as a 'BTCC racing incident'. :D

The 240Z entered was interesting to see but a bit outclassed (not as much as the Mini Marcos though).

The more videos I watch of the track laps (including mine) the more I realise that this was surely only meant to be a parade and that we (Z Club) were treating it as a thrash.

Sean was this one of your wind-ups, I even had a crash hat on for god's sake?
