How much is a Z worth?

I was offered FFA for 11k in the late 90's when he was coming out of hiding but could only raise 9.5k :(. The figures mentioned for both cars now is crazy & makes my favourite Z the Blues Mobile look an absolute snip at the 50k it was advertised for.

JD Classics where looking for offers in excess of £250k for Big Sam with the engine in pieces on the floor and offers in excess of £275 if engine rebuilt and back in the car. Not sure if anybody deserves a pie and pint for being so far off, but if anyone wants to make claim I am more than happy to sit down when we cross paths. FFA 196L was offered to me for £150k.

Personally, for what it is worth, I would say that there is an argument that Big Sam or an ex works rally Z with proper history could be worth £200k plus.

If it has stayed in ex-rally format - perhaps....and I feel that Big Sam would have the same value if he'd been based upon a regular shell.

FFA means nothing to me, LAL neither - nice stories but I consider both overpriced even at half that.
You want some value, go build or have built a Z and start taking on and beating those Porkers and Fords on Europes' finest circuits and put your Z up for sale !;)

I would go with Sean's description of "top notch" but place the value at £50k plus going down from there. Argument being why would a Z be worth any less than Porsche of the same era, or proper Escorts ie RS etc.

Take that argument to the public - it aint tomorrow that a 240Z will ba valued on a par with your choices...but then, there are dozens of RSs and 'S' in Europe/UK whereas all we got was a meat and potatoes S30.....

Why is a bottle of wine that I paid £40 for 25 years ago now worth £800 plus, it looks the same, I certainly don't notice it tasting any different and if anyone would prefer to share a bottle of wine instead of the pie and a pint you had better hurry because I'm down to my last bottle and it is calling my name loudly.
At £800, it falls into the investment leaugue - don't merely drink it - auction it off....don't worry about me - I have my own wine sources ;).

Duncan - don't feel depressed, put it down to me being particulary 'sage' (in the French sense) atm.....

Fortunately I have that car already, with a win and podiums this year in the UK, up against some big boys over here, next year UK and Europe. Looks like Spa and Portugal at the moment for Europe.

Nico was having your pants down.
It was offered a lot cheaper than that not long after that.

Yes, I am aware that a figure in the higher teens was floated around a few months later but that didnt bother me as I wasnt interested:devil:

And even then you thought it too expensive.
. where did I say that? you seem to be jumping to conclusions now:lol:

You know, for a massive Datsun fan, overall, I feel you have a low esteem for their value my friend.
May I remind you that Datsun does not stop at the s30 range ! Had FFA been a works rally "violet"/"bluebird/other" with documented history/pedigree it would have caught my attention be in my stable :smash:.

At the time, FFA was being "offered" to release capital to build a safari going 240z ( idea never materialised)....and to me it was just another fast road 240z (albeit this particular one was well known)

If you didn't think that, would you not have bought it with the cash you would otherwise have had for that elusive rally coupé. I do seem to remember that the value you place on boring, common or garden SSSs aint high.....

Point taken.:)

......apologies, I meant FIA Group IV spec...ie within the historic rules.

That was a discussion earlier, Geoff Jackson and I have been playing around with that exact idea and we felt that until such time we could build a car that could compete with the Blue Modsports Z that it would be a little out of its depth against, in particular Porsche RS and RSR and we want to be fighting for wins and podiums not a midfield runner. We feel that we can actually build that car now, but the next questions are "How Much" and "Is it worth it" etc etc. The important thing here is "Yes we can"

No. Why do you find it difficult to digest that as nice as FFA was/is, not everyone wants to own a race prepared/highly modified car ? Given its heritage, it would be a shame to "soften" the period mods just to make it a weekend cruise car, which is what I would look in a zed.

Oh dear, here we go again..snobbery of the s30 elite class again:rolleyes:. When folk do not even accept their step brothers [hls30's], their cousins[s130's] are considered overweight, distant cousins[ z32's] are seen as obese, what hope do the rest of the extended family of Datsuns have?:smash:

No snobbery - you're off the planet there Preet - you KNOW I don't hold those opinions mate. Is it not you who'd rather drop in an SR20 than historically prepare un L4 'cos it'll be cheaper ?

Bluez....I think you and I might benefit from an email exchange as there are perhaps two cross-channel projects that might pay dividends to share development costs - I'm talking gearboxes and I think you know what I mean ;), injection, brakes...all that is needed to compete succesfully against those RSRs.

We too here admire the 'it's the participation that counts' brigade BUT wins and podiums are what pay - right ?

What stopped you Rahail...??

Just timing really Jonathan.
And too be honest I'd only just entered the vintage scene, and didn't know what was what.
I remember Pmac sat in my kitchen stating it was really more a track machine and thought its not for me really, back then.
Peter said he liked the idea of two Asians thrashing/haggling out a deal over the table on FFA.
Wish I'd have listened to him now!!
