How much is a Z worth?

45-50 is probably the mark for a pro restored T , currently.

I'm not knocking the maths, just pointing out where the costs are. Absolutely agree Sean on the comp car. Nice old resto 911Ts and backdates are in the late 20s early 30s, looking at the current market Zs seem to be about 10k short on that, do you think they'll catch up ?

.....yes.....BUT and a big BUT, the quality of the car being sold has to be spot on and frankly, there're a lot that aint all across the board !

If people want to see Zs attracting correct prices, then the cars have to match the correct condition. Punters aren't stupid.

And another thing......not to labour the point much more, we should also be mindful that we are not talking about a genuine 'Works' Historic Competition car here - far from it....
Anything with a genuine Works provenance carries a premium of - what - maybe 50% more than otherwise ?
The same Customer I mentioned earlier also wanted to purchase any ex-Works Rally 240Z's that might be on the market - not that there were any - so what would they be worth ?

Your friend The Count could advise on that one, Sean, but to my understanding there are two genuine and one 'possible but unverified', if that is the best way to describe it.

And come on, answer the question, what sort of value would you put on them ?

Only 3x cars.....that's like asking how much for Paul Newmans Porsche 935 in '79....

Alright, don't ask me how much for one of them, ask the Japanese !

Fcuk Escorts would get more 'cos people relate to them - who here relates to scummy Datsuns ?

IF...they were sold here, they'd be iundervalued unless there were overseas' bidders.

More interesting debate, this has certainly stirred the emotions.

For me £85k is an absolute minimum for a competitive Group IV Z, then you have to factor in proper testing, proper set up for different tracks, spares etc etc. Do this properly and there's not much change from £110k. That's before you start racing.

Recreate Big Sam properly? My opinion no change from £120k, then all the extras above to achieve race success which may well be limited because a recreation will definitely not obtain FIA HTP and restrict the cars eligibility to certain events.

So on reflection I would still offer and pay £150k for Big Sam.

Sean is right though the championship Sam won was second division, was more than a tad lucky but the car did win. Not sure about the purity of the claimed history behind Sam ex works rally car/shell etc but that is all part of the legend now.

More important than all that though is the fact that Sean wins quote of the thread to date with the let's not get carried away with the "Saturday Spike Fever" That has put a real smile on my face.

If people asked a build price plus a realistic profit then cars would be the correct price and nobody would get stung.

Greed has cause enough problems worldwide over recent years.

Historic cars like Kevin Bristow's rally car and Big Sam are different. They are worth what someone values the history at. That is very personal to the buyer and not something we can quantify.

Like choosing handbags.

Greed.....not just the buyer but the seller. If correct products were available at correct prices, nobody would anticipate getting stung........and there have been some insect bites in the Z world all over.
