Drag Challenge Round 9

Sorry Mike but think i am going to have to pull out of this as want a nice relaxing Sunday as on Monday due to have a pre-op assessment at Charing Cross Hospital

Can't make this one as I'm moving house over this weekend and I'll be flat out trying to make the new place just habitable. It's had nothing done to it since it was built in '67 so the Z has to take a back seat for at least a week or so. Should be OK for the last race of the season though.

shame your not going to make it john I have a feeling it will be the reverse for me as I will attend Avon park but will probably miss the last one so I can start pulling the zed apart so I can do all the stuff underneath before winter makes the garage too uncomfortable.

I may be able to make this one if I can talk the people in our chain to change the move date to the 7th October. I'll try my best.

Yeah have a word with the selfish buggers how dear they want to move when the drag challenge is on.:D

The Drag Challenge can always fit new runners in! Only restriction on this meeting will be if we have more than eight but significantly less than sixteen, only the fastest eight will qualify for the Bracket Eliminator. Running on the strip will be open to all! Look forward to seeing you there...

No pass required - pay at the gate and find our space in the Club parking area. If you are signing on make sure they give you a "Z" prefix on the race number issued. Scrutineering and crash helmet required at SCR.

No noise checks in drag racing! I think the track will be in operation from about 9-30am weather permitting. Don't forget to allow time for signing on AND scrutineering. There will be specific Z only qualifying sessions during the morning and possibly early afternoon. Only times from these sessions will count towards entry in the Bracket Challenge. You need to get your head around the best time you can run (without going even .0001 faster) to set your Bracket handicap / advantage time.

Link to the SCR site shows that we are an integral part of the program! Shakespeare County Raceway (You may have to cut and paste the link yourself as this site still doesn't let me do any formatting or inserting operations...) Would all Z entrants please make sure that they are given a Z prefix race number when scrutineered - this is essential for tracking qualifying progress and entry to the Bracket Eliminator? Eliminator entry will cost an extra tenner I'm afraid, but I think the winner will get a cash payout from these entry fees. Don't hold me to this! Reminder to all that helmets are required at SCR. Early start to be sure you are signed-on and ready for Z specific qualifying sessions - times to be announced. Plenty of Club based parking space for spectators, but it is more fun to run.

I hope we're going to get enough entrants to make this Eliminator work - a few have now dropped by the wayside!

Another great Zclub event!
First time on the drag strip for my Z32 and definitly wont be the last. Arrived at 8:30 and went straight to the burger van for a bacon and egg bap and a strong black coffee. Now fully awake I proceeded to scrutinering. Satisfied that my battery was secure and drivers seat was attached to the body I was issued my race number by the scrutineer. Met up with the other Zclub members as they arrived and moved to the queue for our first run at 10:00. My only goal for the day was to run a 14 second quarter, which I knew would be respectable for an NA.
First run - 15.219 with a .737 reaction time - this was against a turbo Supra with an imaculate engine bay. Killed him off the line but he caught and passed me at the finish line. It looked like a 14 sec run was possible!
Second run - 15.333 with a .387 reaction time. Matched up with a Ford sedan, murdered him but got slower!
Third run and first qualifyer for the Zclub bracket challange - 15.981 with a .494 reaction time. Matched up against the only other Z32 driven by Paul who was pulling 13.2s. Had a great start, pulled second gear, and then couldn't find third! Wept as he overtook me like as I was standing still...
Fourth run, second qualifier - 14.947 with a .538 reaction time - Met up with Paul again. The perfect run, everything came together and I got my 14! Unfortunatly I set my bracket time at 15.00 based on my earlier runs so broke out. Phil also broke out with a 13.34 run but by only.05 to my .06 so I lost, but couldn't have been happier!
Fifth run, first bracket heat - 15.259 with .639 reaction time. As the worst qualifier (one **** run and one break out) I was paired with John Billings, the best qualifier. John hit his bracket time spot on and I was rubbish.
John went on to the final where he matched up with Steve Kiddle for an excellent race. After running consistant 16.1s all day John's 260 decided it was feeling a bit frisky and pulled a 15.8.
Congratulations to Steve for a great run, and thanks to Mike for a truely memorable day!

Pictures and video coming soon.
