Classic Z register

emmm how to win friends
So your saying that the owners of cars here are inferior to the registers owners:eek:

Nope ! but that is what i seem to have read or misread in this topic :)
Was the CZRegister a breakaway group of ex Z club members?

re first comment - rollocks - you've seriously mis-read !

re second - now you're getting there and someone who was there will come along and explain why soon and the decision to do the why was the right one irrespective of how things have turned out re Nissan and the inferior cars here...........

The club here has NEVER prejudiced members or their cars and (imho) has done more and done that more freqently and consistently to promote Zs and ZXs for the past 20 years that I've been a member.

It was actually your comment i misread!
Maybe they hung out 'til Nissan began selling another car 'in the same vein' - I seem to remember the NEC '92 when we had a pristine red 240Z and Z32 on our stand and just behind was a yellow/black rallye Z and a stand reeking of Nissans' money..........

With Nissan it appeared to be an active event (ours) would have some support whereas anything 'prestigeous' went the Registers' way - all very frustrating but 17 years ago now.............:p

For prestigeous read indoor shows !

"...............as it seems the Classic Z register got the best of the Zs....."

Perhaps we all mis-read your statement....did you mean cars of just that the best was had of available help and means ?

If the latter, I apologise for the 'rollocks' statement.

There is a background story here and one with which I was intimately involved. However, I'm not for raking the coals and stoking the fire...

Suffice to say there was a rift and the members at the time were invited to vote for either the Club direction which included a colour magazine, embraced new models as they arrived, had an active, money-making parts department and had a future view or, the direction which settled with the 260Z being the end of the Z world as we know it, no fund raising opportunities, continue with black and white magazine etc. I think you can all see which direction was the popular choice - by a large percentage. As a result the Chairperson resigned and a new committee was appointed and the Z Club continued forward to what you see today.
A little later, the small fraction who couldn't envisage life with the 280ZX and 300ZX persuaded the previous Z Club Chairperson to start the Classic Z Register. Interestingly, things which should have been part of the Z Club appeared as part of the Register - like the Nissan association.

There's lots more background to the story and, undoubtedly some will claim a very different viewpoint and perspective to mine, so I've left that at the bare bones. Some of you were there and may remember the course of events, but I don't feel the need to drag it all up again. Perhaps there will be an interesting chapter in the forthcoming Samuri book?

Actually another thing that convinced me was John Newlyn's first ever UK 240Z and Lynnes very nice one also -hence i assumed with a misread of your comments and put 2 and 2 together to make 5;)

Lynnes was nice (was) but I know of at least one that was better and in The Z Club but less well known.

There is another that is as good (maybe still in the register, maybe not but it's proably in Italy now as it's owner emigrated and I haven't seen the car for sale !

As for Jons', that also was restored and there are other great restored cars ! Then, move across to competition Zs - there are their fair share of them represented here in all forms of motorsport and I think the balance is comfortably tipped in favour of Z Club membership and at least some of the 'runners' get on here and share their experiences - no snobs or aloofness allowed !

But then there are some that prefer a certain aloofness and we're just a bunch of wowdy webbells !

Is James Taylor a member of the Z Club or Classic Z Register ? He has 3 of the best 240's around !!!! As for Lynnes car, a good friend of mine (a specialist in early Z cars) was looking for a very good 240 at the time it was being offered forsale, I mentioned it to him & his reply was not interested there are things about the car that I do not like !!! he knew the car quite well.

'James' cars' haven't been run in ages and Geoff has them under lock and key. James has been a member of The Z Club.

I thought that Lynn's car had been spoilt with the velour trimmed door panels, I much prefered James Morris's car,...............but I'm not a fan of a totally original car anyway.

Alan cheerz for that
were you around when a n club mag Vol 5 No1was produced the cover of which is amongst the mags on the front page as trying to get the date year of it

Pheonix Inn Hartley Witney June Pete Scoburn 240Z XVE 950L ( Before Sue Lombard and our own Sean Dezart owned it)

I didn't join 'till early '83, First meet was poss in March at Ross on wye & saw Cannonball run in a reserved room at some pub. I never did see that chap again who organised it,think he had a red 240.
Lynne was already chair & Sue Lombard had that car.
That Worcester meet in '85 was organised by Anne Gilespie who had a silver 240 with either dark blue or dark green bottom half.
