Change to 'classified ads' rules

CHANGES TO ZCLUB.NET CLASSIFIED SECTION

Well folks, after exhaustive discussion and seemingly endless debate we've adopted a new system for the Classified Adverts section. For the small annual fee for joining the ZClub there are many benefits, most of which I'm sure you're aware (if not PM me and I'll do my best to answer / point you in the direction of a thread that does). It was felt however that another benefit should be the possibility of viewing classified adverts a whole week before un-paid / website members, in order to have 'first dibs' on car parts that are becoming more and more difficult to obtain.

If you're a paid up member who's selling, this is how it works:
1. You place your advert as normal.
2. Your advert goes to moderation so it can be placed in the members only section by committee (within 24hrs)..
3. For the next seven days it is viewable by red / paid up members so club members in need are given a 'head-start / early opportunity' to get their hands on your item/s.
4. After seven days, anyone can see your advert, opening it up to the general public.

It's that simple.

If you're a non-member / website member who's selling, this is how it works:
1. You place your advert as normal, but put that people will need to PM you if they're interested and not post on the advert.
2. Your advert goes to moderation so it can be placed in the members only section by committee (within 24hrs).
3. For the next seven days it is viewable by red / paid up members so club members in need are given a 'head-start / early opportunity' to get their hands on your item/s.
4. After seven days, anyone can see your advert, opening it up to the general public.

This was deemed fair by the committee after it was put to a public poll and the resounding result was for a seven day grace period for full members. This may change in future but for the mean time, that's the system we've put in place. There is no conspiracy here and it's not directed at any members / non-members in particular but something we've been deliberating on for a long while. If you have any thoughts / comments / concerns (that you've not already aired) please PM me and I'll do my best to answer.

Wouldn't it be better for both moderators and paid up members if the need for thread approval in the members only section was removed?

That way any advert posted in that section would be visible to other paid up members immediately without affecting the way the system works.

That would be nice but unfortunately moderation rules can only be set by usergroup, not per forum.

I agree with this and am pretty happy - I've just placed another ad though and the price comes up as best offer rather than the actual price I put it.. Anyone care to shed light on this

I just placed a test ad and the price worked fine - are you entering JUST the number? No £ sign etc...

Unless of course you place a Wanted Advert then just stick it in the main forum and then you'll get all the hints and tips you need from members and non-members alike.

Now as I recall when I placed a wanted advert, as a member who PAYS £15 per year, my request was moved into an area for 7 days before the rest of the world could see it.

This was deemed fair by the committee

I reported the above post yesterday but it appears that nothing is going to be done about it as one committee member has already chipped into the "discussion".

Or maybe the report function is another part of this expensive forum that doesn't work.

Yes you recall correct and your comments were taken on board and since Friday 25th March any new wanted classified have not been moved to the members area for the first seven days as I am sure you have noticed

This procedure has been implemented in line with your earlier suggestion/complaint and I would have thought would have meet with your approval which is why maybe you have not commented on this

now come on Rob the following was a genuine question on where to purchase aluminium radiator from
Posted by: 240Z Man Hi,
Coming to the end of my re-build, now ready to install a radiator and looking for a crossflow radiator with hoses .

Any suggestions were to buy ? and what sort of prices ?

Thanks :D
And from all the replies to the question giving advise on where to go to to purchase one which has been excellent advise from all who replied to the query and maybe the title of the thread needs rewording and the whole thread moved to the technical section

Yes Rob the committee committee members who were on line yesterday had received notice of your reported post at 6.31pm yesterday and by 6.35pm it was being discussed by them ( 4 minutes after a repoted post notice it was being discussed Sorry about the time lapse on starting to actioning this)
And the consensus was there was nothing wrong with the thread and the answers being given so no action was taken

It also shows how uninformed your about this part of the forum not working correctly and to me seems you have some sort of axe to grind with the committee

As I would have thought rather than posting about you alleged non action on a reported post anybody else would have sent a pm or used that old fashioned thing called a phone to inquire what was happening but no you would rather try and have yet another dig at the committee for your own personal reasons

Before any one says that I am trying to stop people having their say on the open forum I have always maintained that I will fight tooth and nail for the rights to say what you want no matter whether I agree with your opinion or not but it seems to me that in some cases there is some sort of private vendetta going on by posting in the open forum

sorry to ask a silly question

as a forum user, how do I see adds?

In 5 latest classified, it is newest so under 7days aged by definition

When I go in "Z community/Classified", latest is from match the 16th, so 11 days ago.

I spotted some parts and was waiting for them in classified section but don't see them.
Thus I am asking myself if I am using the correct methodology.

thanks for help

Hi Sylv1
just checked what you should be able to see and the latest is "fresh air "dated 16th March in the classified parts and z car1972 dated 19th March in the classified cars for sale
This was the last ones that needed moving over until today when I have moved over 5 classified for sales that where first put up on the 20th March in the members section

hope this explains the situation

I hadn't noticed. If things get changed then may I suggest you feed this back to all users.

If you feedback (it's called "closing the loop"), then it stops any unnecessary moans.

Steve, if you and the commitee wish to take things personally that is your choice.

I think the benefits of being a paid up member should be listed here (on the home page) in a concise way to encourage non members to join - don't make people work too hard to find out the benefits tell them straight away ;)

I agree :)

The current "Member Benefits" tab links to discounts.

Wasn't there a member/non-member page which has a tick list ? I can't seem to find it.

Nice ramp ladybird and good points made about member benefits. Z looks good, stick some photos up in your gallery so we can have a good look at her .

Yeah, and predominantly by Oilman. Should someone delete old and out of date threads and maybe give Oilman a sticky that he can edit so it does't dominate the section?
