240Z on TV tonight

SUs run fine - did they upgrade anything else too (if so they never said) ?

Illogical on a stock engine and cam !

Hand up those who's first thought would be to upgrade to Efi ?

So answers this then clever cloggs, how much value has been knocked off due to putting Throttle bodies on.

.......and therefore taking it away from OEM spec and reducing it's original value ?

What amazes me is that in most threads now value seems to raise its head above the wall

Those posted by you and status are so much better. :smash:

Ask Rob - he's the boss !

As usual, someone asks you a question and you can't back up or come out with a simple yes or no,don't know why you bother mate, now I'm off to earn sum dosh for my new project

I can imagine that the car's resale value wouldn't be harmed because compensated by the resale value of the injection system if replaced by carbs - how's that ?

The question was,how much value has been knocked off due to fitting TB s as you say it knocks the value but you won't say how much,or can't,so in your last statement you have just contradicted yourself as usual,as for the show I thought it was great and could see where the doc was coming from ,was that runway Bruntingthorpe where we done hot metal a few days after I got my Zed back from DJ

I would say that throttle bodies are a good upgrade to SU's. You then have the capability to make the engine run much better under all conditions and improve performance and economy. The only down side is the cost. This is all assuming you want your zed to be driven and not just as an investment.

TB's aside, did anyone notice the lack of a distributor (blanked off) and no plug leads across the cam cover!

The cost is enormous (ok, apparently in this case it was free) and will never be returned by fuel economy alone.

Of course they're a good upgrade - but then so is adjustable suspension, LSD, vented fronts, disc rears etc et al....

Toopy - not needed when managed by an ECU.

As I was watching the episode last night I could 'hear' the arguments this would cause especially the ditching of the carbs. :D

All in all the finished car looked spot on and from a practicality point of view I'm sure it will even more reliable than the carb setup.

As a matter of interest how much would the conversion from SUs have cost in parts - roughly? £2 - 3 grand... more?

I looked at the Jenvey throttle bodies that look like the weber carb DCOE's last weekend at the NEC, and they are very nice, look very detail correct, the stand had some fitted to a couple of stunning AM DB5's.

Keep the original fitted equipment for refitting if someone is particlarly bothered when and if you sell your car on and they don't devalue it at all IMO...

It's an interesting topic (the FI arguement). Also interesting is that folks replace the FI on 280Zs with carbs. I assume that's because it's not so tune-able. Perhaps better to change the 280Z FI with throttle bodies not Triple carbs.

My overall impression of the show remains as always - why all the playacting and lies about timescales, parts and services etc.

They did ask me about an exhaust Sean and I mentioned you but they said they'd rather make one!

It was a bit 'patched-up' like a lot of UK cars. Enjoyed it though and the discussions about the car did us a few favours.

Agree, I don't know why they feel they need to dumb it down with dressing up or stupid stunts with long suffering suppliers. I hit the mute button when they start all that nonsense. As for time scales, all it does is make people think it's quick to restore a car and it just isn't.

In (part) answer to my own question about how much the conversion kit from SU would cost:

This one for a BMW M52 6 cly = £1,232.00 +VAT

So at least £1500 inc VAT... PLUS ECU and then there are all the electrics etc...

Fuzz was on stage at the NEC taking questions from the ordinance.
Some one ask how much do they actually have to spend on the car
It was over £20k thing he said £22k per car.
Wouldn't it be nice if someone spent that on your car and it didn't cost you anything

Yes Toopy there is no distributor and you need injectors to go with the TB s and it will cost loads a money, and when Rob said they would rather make their own exhaust I can see where they are coming from after the last comment from the frog aimed at my good self, see if you say that to my face dear boy,I was just curious about your comments regardiing the value of a Zed if you put tb s on it hence making it better to drive, but you can't back up your original comment,I suggest if you are going to continue to talk garbage then keep it in froggy land old chap.now run along, there's a good little boy,now back to thread

Good point about the 280Zs although I'd quite happily run a street version on it's OEM injection with a few tweaks.

They wouldn't have made a manifold though so I assume it'll be on a rusty OEM version or a s/h 6-2 - perhaps Fourways can enlighten ?

If they'd asked, they might have got a VERY good deal for a mention - never mind.:D

Thatttt'sss entertainment !
