Hi all
Last night I picked up a 1975 Mazda 929 Coupe with a 12A Rotary engine (means nothing to me?? is that good? he said it was built 9k miles ago)

I have always had VW or Audi before this, but fell in love with this when I saw it... it’s like a baby mustang
I couldn’t find any rust and the car runs like a dream... clutch feels a little iffy but works for the moment.

Any common fault I should know about?

what are parts like? are there many of these about, and does anyone know the car? as I have no history

also I live in a village near slough are there many meets local? And do they still have a jap night at Ace Cafe

sorry for the million questions, like I said I am very very new to this

ok here she is...:driving:

pretty rare these, rotary engine can be fine but if its not working properly it can be hard to find someone who knows this engine. Rotary engine sits in mazda RX7 and RX8, so if you have any problems with it try find an rx specialist.

Car looks nice, take good cary of it :)

i used to have one 929 was the piston version rx4 was the rotary 1975 would have a 13b engine 12a isrx3 model would leave most cars for dead in its day heavey on fuel ihave rebuilt a couple not to difficult mine was a 4 door salon mbv111p blue

Awesome car, any pics of the interior?

The most common problems are caused by lack of oil changes, rotaries need oil changes a lot more regularly. Also, never use synthetic oil, it will eat away the seals. Hayward Rotary is only 50 miles from you, they know everything there is to know about rotary engines.

cheers guys...
wife doesnt like the strips....what you think keep or take off? im currently 50/50
looking for a front splitter tho... if anyone has one...

I think the stripes suit the car and look good, but personally, I would take them off.

Also, you'll probably struggle getting parts here as it's not a Mazda site.

I think the stripes suit the car, but would agree with your wife, I'd take them off as they detract from the lines of the car.

Also just my own opinion but I think the car would look even nicer with some old school looking wheels.

Interior and engine pics please.

whats th best way to take them off?
also am looking for ideas for wheels so any ideas are more then welcome
dash is cracked but dont think it will be easy to find one that isnt :(

will get some better pics but here are a few

If they're vinyl, then I'd guess using a hairdryer to warm them up slightly and peel them off very slowly. I'd start on the side ones first, just incase it doesn't work well. Then at least if you have to stop, you have tried on the least obvious place.

Great looking car. Keep the stripes!- You fell in love with the car because of the way it looks now.

Finding off the shelf wheels is going to be practically impossible... according to the magic world of Google, wheel PCD is 4x110 ET20. You will probably have to get custom ones; Minilite might be worth a look, and they aren't too expensive.

I take it you are asking all the same questions on a site that may know more about these cars and what fits i.e a Mazda/rotary forum?

Awesome car - I think this has been displayed at Japfest in the last couple of years. Love the styling.

Chappers does have a point though, this is entirely the wrong place to be asking questions about this car, given its a Datsun/Nissan Z forum not a Mazda/rotary forum! (and the thread title isn't exactly correct stating "Datsun 929" is it?,,,)

Why can't anyone who loves old Japanese sportscars discuss them here - this club was there before all the others, we held the first all Jap. sportscar event - imho, it's not the wrong place, just a different place.

Welcome friend with the Mazda - more of you with other Mazdas, Isuzus, Hondas, Toyotas....I love 'em all !

And we could change the name to japanese nostalgic car dot com where all old Japanese cars can be discussed.

..........and you could also refuse to allow discussions here on the subject of 160/180B SSS rallye cars.

Or someone might have the imagination here to open a topic zone for classic (say pre-1980) Japanese cars...............:)
